This sounds awful, but a friend just had the same problem - no bootable device. He had dropped it, hitting keyboard first. Now he thumped it on the opposite side and IT WORKED! Must have been a loose connector

  • TVizzle Feb 18, 2011

Hey, no joke, this same thing happened to me. I dropped it while it was in it's little neoprene case -- it could not have fallen more than two feet onto soft carpet, but my aspire one netbook gave me the same message during start-up. I looked around on websites and called acer tech support, and they all told me to have it looked at and there was probably a problem with my hard drive. So, as a last ditch effort before buying a new one or shelling out a considerable chunk of change, I turned it over, took out the hard drive and then put it back in. I then powered on my acer with no problem! Something must have jiggled loose in the fall. I'm no computer expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I suggest you try this before spending your money.

    Hope it helps!

As it boots up, It will give you the ability to hit a key for setup. Hit that key and go to hard drive. Make sure it says "auto" for Primary Master. If it does, look at "boot devices" and make sure the hard drive is in the boot list, preferably, number two after CD or floppy drive.

Acer aspire 5253 error message no botable device after laptop was dropped on carpet

No bootable device suggests that your Acer Aspire hard disk may have been damaged when the computer was dropped.
You should try opening the cover on the base of the laptop where the hard drive is fitted and check to make sure that the drive is seated firmly and has not come loose with the drop. See the Acer Aspire 5253 Quick Start Guide for the location of the drive cover.
If reseating the drive does not help, then you would need to find any recovery discs that you may have made or received with the laptop plus need to buy and install a replacement hard drive.

When i turn on the acer aspire one D255E it says chack cable connections no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key

it could be that the BIOS is set to boot from cd/dvd instead of boot from hard disk. if so, resetting the BIOS to default values might clear the problem. if not then check that you have not left another disc in the optical drive rather than a bootable operating system disc.
another possibility might be that, internally the hard disk drive is not properly docked into its sata port.

"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press

Try this :

What is WinToFlash

There may come a day that optical drives are as hard to find as 5.25 floppy drives are today.

WinToFlash starts a wizard that will help pull over the contents of a windows installation CD or DVD and prep the USB drive to become a bootable replacement for the optical drive. It can also do this with your LiveCD.

You don't have to worry about scratches on the disc or misplacing your original media discs once you transfer their contents to the flash drive. The optical drive is quickly becoming a thing of the past, especially in office environments, as media is shifted to the cloud.

Take note: you have to select usb flash disk in your boot priority, how? just enter your bios then search for boot priorities.

That message means your hard drive has crashed! You'll need to remove the drive and hook it up to an enclosure to see if you can still access the files. Swap the old drive out with a new one, reinstall operating system and you're back in business.

I am trying to format my acer aspire 5735z laptop. I try it with my recovery disc but its not happening, i am trying by putting disc and pressing f2 even but when i go to boot menu and try to press cd/dvd...

Hi,

To change the bootable device you need to go to bios setting. Depending on your computer make and model the way to go to bios could be different though generally you can go to bios by continuously tapping on F1 or F2 or F9 or F10 or F11 etc The moment you press the power button and you see flashing brand scree like dell, hp etc. start tapping on F1 or F2 or F9 or F10 or F11 only one key at a time.

The best option is to install any version of windows is to use Wintobootic search and download it on a computer. Use any storage device like external hard disk or pen drive. make sure the storage device is completely blank when you make it bootable. insert your windows CD and Open wintobootic, select source and make bootable storage device.

No boot disc

Yes bunnydawg could be indeed correct. Although also make sure you don't have a flash drive, external hard drive, or any CD/DVD left in the drive first. As they could try to boot from the device and fail (because they are not setup and formatted as bootable) and it will report the very same message.
