I have a Bose companion 3 speakers and the left speaker is louder than the right speaker. I brought it for servicing and I was informed that the audio input connector at the back of the system is faulty and there is no spare part for it therefor unable to repair my speakers system.... What kind of service is this?! Unable to repair?! The person suggested that I use the audio input on the control pod. This is not solving anything for me as your customer!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".
Initially, the 14 seconds interval is significant. This is indicative that whatever fault it is, it is coupled to a time-based circuitry. The time-based circuitry need not be complicated. it can actually be a simple resistor/capacitor network. The capacitor takes a certain amount of time to charge and then discharge (14 seconds, 'whoomp'). Having said this, then the foremost suspect would be an electrolytic capacitor, probably low value (1~4.7uF), probably a coupler/decoupler. Of course the capacitor serving other functions could very well be the culprit as well.
Corrective measure would entail, identifying/determining which capacitor and replacement. Tedious as it may sound, each capacitor would then have to be tested for capacitance and leakage out of circuit or at least 1 leg un-soldered.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would
be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your
concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.

Try changing the plug on the control pod, those plugs are fairly weak and prone to breakage. Does there appear to be any strain at all on the plug itself? if so then that is where I would start. If you have a series 2 then I can help you, or if you can find out if the 2 control pods are the same, that would be fine too, but I have a series 2 system companion 3 and if needed I will cut my cable to trace the wiring and then replace your plug for you. my cost for this would be $40, that includes return shipping with priority mail.

check if the volume control needs to be replaced. volume controls gets bad in due time coz of the carbon layer which gets thinner and thinner till it gets cut off
