Diagnosing Maytag gas dryer with intermittent lighting

My Maytag SDG305DAWW gas dryer stopped working consistently today. I took off the lower front panel and cleaned out the lint. About 1/5 times, when I start it, the ignition element heats up, the gas flows, and the dryer heats normally. 4/5 times, the ignition element heats up, but then I hear a strange rattle/clicky sound, (which I assume is something related to the gas not starting to flow), and then the ignition stops glowing. The drum continues to spin, but no gas/heat. Every few minutes, it tries again to light, but usually the same thing. Reading online, it looks like it could be the little electric coils...but why would I hear that rattle/click sound?

SOURCE: After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Dryer Heats for 30 Minutes then stops heating

Hello there :
what you are going to want to do is to troubleshoot the heating circuit
if you have a multimeter
there is a thermal Cut-Out switch that is connected to the heater box.) -simply unplug wires and take reading from the end connetors
your reading should be 0 ohms. and nothing else
Next check
a part called the Hi-Limit Thermostat that is connected to the heater box, it should be located closest to the heating element wire leads unplug the wires and take the reading across the 2 wire connections . this should give you a reading of 0 ohms and nothing else.
Now if any of these 2 parts are not in this range they need to be replaced and i would recommend that you replace them as a set cause if one usually goes out then the other one will soon follow ok

I hope this is very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

SOURCE: Kenmore dryer heats at first then quits

Good day,
An ohm reading on the coils for the gas valve will give readings, that will be of little value.
If it runs and fires properly from cold, and then will not refire, replace the coils on the gas valve. A very common problem.

MAYTAG GAS DRYER MODEL SDG305DAWW. THE IGNIGHTER GLOWS BUT DO NOT REVEIVE A FLAME

Your igniter is working fine. The problem is the flame sensor needs to be replaced. The flame sensor is a safety feature. If it doesn't detect heat from the igniter it prevents the gas from flowing. A new flame sensor will cost about 30 - 35 dollars. You can buy on online here

Maytag gas dryer model SDG305DAWW. make a loud squeaking sound when you turn the dryer on. After about 30 seconds it goes away, but has been lasting longer each usage.

Your problem is most common caused by a failing/loosening drive belt that turn the dryer bask by an electric motor.

If you are not familiar with how to replace belts (like the kind on your car engine compartment, I strongly recommend you hire a professional.

Maytag dryer intermittently does not heat up. Cleaned the vent, no luck. What's wrong? HOW DO YOU OPEN THE DRYER TO GET TO THE PROBLEM?

My Maytag has two screws on the lower front , the front will then pivot up and release. Gas or electric? How old? Older gas units can get dust on the flame sensor next to the ignitor, inside the burner area, keeping it from seeing the flame. Wipe it off. Don't bump the ignitor, it's very delicate and will break. Carefully move it out of the way if you have to.
