No picture or sound, flashing standby light, will not turn on

I have a Sony KV-36HS500 Great picture and sound, right up to two weeks ago, now when you turn it on no picture, sounds like it try's to light up but all I get is 6 flashes on the stand by light. I see on the web lots of other people having the same problem with this same TV! When you try to turn it on you hear clicks and then have the standby light flash and it won't turn on. From other posts elsewhere it sounds like a blown capacitor on the power board. If this is a problem a bunch of people are experiencing shouldn't they post a factory recall? At any rate, one post stated that they received help from a tech on this site on how to fix it herself! So I'm wondering if you can help me to do the same. I've got the exact same problem. The TV started behaving this way a couple of weeks ago. I would unplug it at night and it would usually work the next day when I plugged it back in and turned it on. Now, this does not seem to help and it just gives the 6 flashes now.
