When we turn our tv, it stays on for about a minute, shuts off for 15 seconds and repeats this cycle over and over

Your tv is telling you that it has an internal problem. It has a safety that sees this problem and shuts it down before any damage is done. The problem needs to be addressed before it can be viewed again.

Screen shuts off. Power lite blinks. Aquos 42"

Hi,

Hope you have the correct resolution selected:

HD View Modes: When viewing an HD program you can select the following 4 viewing modes.
  • Stretch: suitable for viewing 1.78:1 DVDs. When viewing 1.85:1 DVDs, this mode will show thin black bands at top and bottom of the screen.
  • Dot by Dot (1080i/p only): detects the resolution of the signal and displays an image with the same number of pixels on the screen. When a 720p signal is being input, the image will be delivered in full screen.
  • Smart Stretch: suitable for stretching 4:3 programs to fill the screen.
  • Zoom: suitable for viewing wide-screen 2.35:1 aspect-ratio programs in full screen.
PC View Modes: You can connect the TV to your PC through the HDMI inputs to use the TV as a monitor. The following view modes are available in PC mode.
  • 4:3 Input Signal: You can select between Normal, Zoom, Stretch, or Dot by Dot.
  • 16:9 Input Signal: You can select between Stretch or Dot by Dot.
Also verify if you have set auto timer to 30 mins or so thats why the TV shuts down after a particular time.

Thanks

Tv shuts itself off

Look for the computer processor inside the TV. It needs to be cleaned. A can of compressed air will work. The processor is overheating and causing the tv to shut off. Look for the small fan that is supposed to keep the processor cool then remove the dust.

Good luck!

Archos 504 dvr shuts down when I plug it into the tv and there is no sound.

The same thing happens to me. I've noticed that it is on the dvds and vhs recordings (ie, copy protected) that this happens. The other files (downloaded from internet, tv, etc) play fine. I think it has something to do with copy-protection that allows files to be saved to device, but not transmitted out. This allows you to save and view your commercial recordings on the Archos, but not let the program to be sent to a recording device such as a dvd recorder.

TV TURNS OFF AT DIFFERENT INTERVALS

How old is your TV?
TV's have a circuit that monitors the high voltage and shuts down the set if it senses something amiss. If the set is at least 10 years old this is typical and not worth repairing. If less, figure on replacing the flyback transformer.
Hope ya fix it!
