Palm Lifedrive intermittently
crashes. It will stay off for a couple
of days and then the next time I do a reset or turn it on it will begin to operate again. It may
work for a couple of days or a couple of minutes and then will go black again
and not even respond to a reset.I have
at one point done a hard reset and removed and reinstalled all of the data with
a sync but still get many of the same symptoms.Currently the device is non responsive – it had started to boot
again and I interrupted with an attempted hard reset and it just blacked
out.Is this a motherboard or a
switch?Have you seen these symptoms
before?
I'm having the same problem. Thought it might be battery, replaced that, it worked fine for a couple of weeks then started crashing out again. Occasionally I could do a soft reboot, sometimes unplugging and replugging the battery worked, sometimes nothing would get it to reboot, once it went into a reboot loop and just kept rebooting til I switched it off. At Palm's tech support suggestion I managed to fire it up and do a complete erase of the hard drive and reload all from backup, but then it just crashed out again.
Switch, hard drive, or motherboard faulty? Any suggestions welcome. I certainly will never buy another Palm product, just hope to get this one working again. I'm having the same problem. Audible click, LifeDrive goes into reboot loop, then dies. Tried soft and hard reset, full battery drain & recharge. No luck--any suggestions?Audible click, LifeDrive goes into reboot loop, then dies. Tried soft and hard reset, full battery drain & recharge. No luck--any suggestions?

I tired both those links and even entering the case number but kept getting an "invalid" message.
I ended up getting a new motherboard as that was the only possible remaining cause of the problem (keyboard, screen, hard drive, etc. all work fine). After installing that, it seems to be going ok for the past two weeks. The original battery was stuffed, it only holds a charge for a day or two, so that was part of the problem but something on the motherboard was also dodgy. I'm convinced now that these products are a failure and that is why Palm have abandoned them.
The lifedrive has been working just fine for a year now (touching wood as I write this), and I switched back to the original battery which also works ok. There was clearly a fault with the motherboard which made it think the battery was flat when it wasn't. I'd say, if it keeps rebooting, or boots then shuts off, and the hard drive appears to be working, then the motherboard is the most likely problem.

The best thing I can offer for you to do is to go to the free palm chat service
they offer. I have used this and it worked good for me. Here is a link to the
free chat service. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see a Palm
Chat. From there click on the link that says Chat Now and follow the online
prompts. Best wishes...I hope this will help you.

When you plug the unit into the wall to charge, poke the reset hole in the back of it at the same time. This should reset the internal recharging mechanism in the Palm. Let it sit for a couple of hours and then see if it will come on.
just press the time in the top left hand corner of the lifedrive and a dropdown menu comes down with the option "delete" but this is only for apps. if you want to delete media files, search for a file manager on freewarepalm.com
I to have the same problem. Palm will switch a refurbished on to me for $175. To talk ot their tech support will cost $25. I have decided to do 1 of 2 things. 1. replace the microdrive with a 4Gb Compact flash and if that is not successful, just throw it away and NEVER get another Palm product. Mine died just after the warranty ran out. 12 months plus a few days.
tr3 files are desktop PC files, they must be converted to .pdb files by the TomeRaider desktop program. Changing the file extention does not convert the data to Palm format, it is still PC data.
