LAST WEEK I HEARD A FUNNY NOISE WHEN TAKING OFF IN MY YUKON. THE AIR CONDITIONER STARTED BLOWING ONLY HOT AIR.
MECHANIC SAID THE BELT HAD BROKEN. HE REPAIRED IT AND I HAD COLD AIR AGAIN. SINCE THE REPAIR I STILL HAVE COLD AIR BUT STILL HEAR NOISE WHEN TAKING OFF WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. Going through the same problem. 1.Noise on acceleration, belt eventually breaks, no cold air. 2. Belt replaced, cold air again. 3. Noise resumes on acceleration - - loud knocking noise, belt eventually breaks again (a violent break, according to mechanic) and loss of cold air again.

Noise from interior blower motor? If in engine compartment, go to drive belt. Shiny or cracked, replace. Hand spin the free spinning wheels for the belt to see if any are hard to turn. (Be feeling for roughness). If none, change belt. Take picture or make drawing of how belt is routed before removing.
Hey guys! I had the same problem: Whinning until engine gets warm? Here is what to do: This IS the long rubber belt going all around the engine outside, it is slipping a bit!!! Put on some soap on the belt, while it is turning. ATTENTION! 1.) regular soap! not liquid. 2.) take care, not to cut down your fingers by the visco fan!! Only firmly press it! You can do it also if the engine is not running. In this case start/stop the engine several times so soap it always on a different place. 3.) Be sure the soap goes into the rills of the belt. 4.) You may let the belt replaced OR if they are new, it can be an aftermarket product too, I had the same problem with an Italian made belt, buy the original, costs only 15 Euros more and you don't have these problems, these belts last for at least 50.000 km or more so an original is worth it. Before putting on the new belt (if above didn't help), clean ALL rolls with e.g. brake disc cleaner spray, so all the greasy oily dirt comes out of the rills :)) Again, this worked for me perfectly and I had the same problem. I'd give it a try, a cheap soap is less than an expensive service ;-)) Hope I could help!
In the old days there were three different belts to deal with on a car. Now there is usually just one the serpentine belt. This is one long wide belt drives the alternator, air conditioner and water pump.Fans are usually electric and run off the battery now. How does one know when the belt drive in ones automobile is going bad? Here are some signs that will indicate when it is time to change a serpentine belt.
Sign 1: When the belt is noisy it is a good time to inspect the belt to see why. This could be caused from water on the belt to oil being on the belt. Check the belt to see if it is wet or oily. If it is wet and it is raining this will pass. The oil though may be another problem one needs to see if there is an oil leak that is visible. Another cause may be when one is putting oil into the car and some may have spilled onto the engine.
There are a number of belt cleaners on the market to get oil off. Try one of these before replacing the belt.
Sign 2: The belt could be wearing on the side. Just like a tire a belt could be wearing on one side or the other. This could be caused by the belt rubbing against something like a screw or who knows what?
Look closely and try to find the problem, if it is a loose screw tighten it. If one is not sure take it to a mechanics shop to see what the problem may be. This could save one from a break down on some cold or hot night.
Sign 3: The serpentine belt has what one might call ribbed or notched areas on the belt that faces the pulley assembly. These ribs can eventually wear off. Small amounts of wear are not reason for concern. It is not uncommon to have four or five notches missing or worn and the belt still functioning. This would be a judgment call for replacement.
Keeping this belt replaced as needed is a must. No one wants something to happen when they are on an isolated stretch of roadway. I remember once having a power steering belt break many years ago when I was on a road trip needless to say steering the vehicle did require much more work.

Sounds like it may be going on you.When you accelerate from a stop you put added pressure on the belt, which is fine if are the pulleys and components are good. If the compressor is going bad it will struggle handling the added pressure The cheap possibility is the belt is old and stretched and needs replaced.
Actually,you both could be right.It may be the bearing inside the compressor.The compressor does not make the cold air,it helps pressurize the system to get the freon from the evaporator to the condenser.The evaporator provides the cold air.If you can,open your hood and have someone start your car.Have them give it some gas and see if you can pinpoint the noise more accurately.If your compressor bearing causes it to seize up,you will probably only get a couple of miles before your belt snaps.Another slight possibility is the tensioner.It's pretty rare but stranger things have happened.I did have a compressor seizure years ago and snapped a belt though.If you can pinpoint the noise it would help to know.If you can't I would like a better description of the noise though.Good luck! Are you in a state where it gets pretty cold in winter?You may have a component in the belt system about to seize up.That happened to me when I lived in NY.I heard a squeak for a while,then 1 day the belt broke.I replaced it,drove about 10 miles and it broke again.My a/ccompressor had seized.You may just need a belt but if you are going to self-repair,draw a diagram of the belt loops and after you take off the belt,turn all components and they should turn slightly freely,yet still kind of difficult,sorry it is hard to explain though.Inspect your belt for many small,slightly widening cracks,or larger cracks,or fraying on the edges.You will not be able to turn the engine belt drive.Good luck! Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....
Well, I am not sure the type of sound that you are describing... My take is that there is a screeching sound from belt slipping. Look for alignment issues, if this keeps happening. Also, look into the A/C compressor pressure readings.
do not tolerate this issue, it will not drive the compressor (or other items) correctly until resolved.
Do not use belt dressing, only masks temporarily, the actual condition.
