My IBM Thinkpad won't turn on after improper shutdown.

Two things have me confused. Improper shut down (how did it happen) and "it won't turn on", it won't power up or windows will not start up. Just a little more information and you'll probably be flooded with answers.

IBM Thinkpad T30 2366 won't boot after the IBM Thinkpad screen

you can go to the BIOS setting? if you can,look for "Boot Device Priority" or something like that,it's usually placed on Advanced settings. Set the first boot device as your harddisk,save the settings and restart your computer

My IBM R40 laptop is shutdown auto why after

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Hi and welcome to Fixya1

To reset the machine back to the factory settings, just follow these steps:

- 1 Shutdown your machine and make sure that the charger is plugged in before doing the reset. Turn on the machine.
- 2 Press the blue Access IBM button on your ThinkPad keyboard at the screen prompt. The screen prompt reads "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button." This interrupts the Windows reboot process.
- 3 Double click "Recover to Factory Contents" at the Access IBM predesktop menu.
- 4 Follow the recovery wizard prompts to initiate the factory restoration process. Your ThinkPad will automatically reboot upon completion.

Blue screen on Thinkpad R51e & cannot be shutdown

what operating system are you using and please be more descriptive regarding "blue screen" is it the notorious microsoft "Blue Screen of Death"? or? when this occurs is the system totally locked? or can you hit ctrl alt del and get the task manager? can you boot into safe mode? if you're using xp and can get to safe mode.. have you attempted to restore to an earlier restore point prior to this issue? if yes and you haven't restore back to before issue occured.

Restart problem

There might be possibility of Virus.Please check for virus.
This problem may occur if all the following conditions are true:

You have East Asian Language support installed on your Windows XP-based computer and the Input Method Editor (IME) selected as your default input language.
You have the Welcome screen turned on.

Check weather you are using service pack 1 or above.
If still problem occur then just try to download Shutdown patch from website

It must be a processor overheating problem, check the vents are not restricted and if the fan is always on or never comes on because of a faulty temp setting then theres a overheating problem and the processor will shut down before any damage.

Always check power supply first. Ensure green/orange charging light appears in the LED bank near the screen bottom when adapter is plugged in. If NOT then charger or battery (or motherboard) is faulty.
A dead battery shouldn't cause a shutdown, so the charger is the first suspect. The yellow power socket can become 'rusty' in some cases so inspect this also. If the contacts inside aren't clean & shiny then try some WD40 after scraping gently with a 1 or 2mm flatblade screwdriver (with the battery OUT). If not even a P.O.S.T. (Power On Self Test - IBM logo)
appears with the CDROM and Hard Drive removed, Try cleaning the memory and swapping its position on the back of the unit. Good Luck.

I have had success in the past by unplugging the laptop from the wall power, taking out the battery, then hold the power button for 45 seconds. After that put the battery back in, plug into the wall, and turn on.

IF it is a BIOS password ,Try taking out the battery and shorting the BIOS terminals then reinstallign the battery or leave it out long enought for the capasitors and memory chips to loose their charge. Reinstall the battery and then memory of the pasword wil be no more. BIOS Brainwashing.

Sounds expensive, I'm afraid!

Here is IBM's explanation of the error codes.

What your machine is telling you is that a chip on your Motherboard is faulty and the only way to repair it is a new system board.

It is probably worth finding out how much IBM would charge you to repair it but I very much doubt you'd get much change from £500.
