I recently acquired a used Marantz SR-7200 Surround Receiver and I plugged one of the speakers in to test to see if it would work. It did not work and after attemping to figure out why it froze on the volume screen and even after unplugging and replugging the machine in it does not leave the volume screen. Also appears to be frozen.

DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Board is probably defective or has Poor solder Connection on one of the Ic's on that board. Board cannot be Obtained from Marantz. Must be troubleshot at component Level and requires a very knowledgable tech to repair it. I have done a few of these in the past and usually charge $50 to Evaluate and Give estimate. Check surround mode on the on-screen menu of the amp

It is likely that the PA stage has developed an offset voltage in the output stage. The faulty amplifier channel can be found by progressively disconnecting the collectors of the of the power transistors until the protection fault disappears. Once the faulty channel is found the the cause of the offset has to be traced to the faulty transistor or resistor. Don't forget that if you can smell smoke or burning then there are likely to be components(esp transistors) that have been damaged by the fault.
I had a Luxman unit that destroyed 5 transistors in the output stage that was due to an open .5W resistor in the driver stage.
Good luck.
SOURCE: Marantz sr8001: standby light blinks rapidly,
Hello there Ed.
For anyone that has ever had such an issue with a MARANTZ SR series (6001. 7001. 7002. 8001...etc...) issue a question and I do HAVE the answer.
I could be just anything, or just the low quality binding posts used by MARANTZ for that.
Please describe to me in details how you've connected your speaker wires at the back, and give me description when and how did this problem came up.
Kind regards
Evangelos

I have exactly the same problem! Sometimes when I turn the input dial it comes back on but this time it is out for good. I have tried re-wiring and unplugging etc. nothing seems to work.
