In case of your Acer laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper and I wouldn't recommend doing it especially if it's under warranty.
Restart your laptop. Press ALT and F10 together continuously quickly when you see the Acer Logo at start-up. Keep pressing this combination until it says "Loading Files".
Note that you have to have the original Acer Setup and did not format the hard drive then this option will work. Also note that when you do the restore, all info on "C" Drive is lost so it would be advised to make a backup before restoring.
you can format it just open my computer
then right clik on drive which you want to format then clik on format then slect NTFS or FAT32 then enable quick fomat then "yes"
Yo ucan not format drive on which windows installed most of C: drive.

Hi there. There is a strong possibility that the hard drive has bad sectors on it so the recovery CD cannot format it or cannot write to the hard drive. If the PC is still under manufacturers warranty i recommend you take take advantage of that, if not then take the hard drive out of the laptop, attach it to another computer as a slave device and try to format it, if it formats put it back in run the recovery CD again, but this time just install the OS don't format it. If symptoms persist consider using a new hard drive.

Insert Windows Reinstallation disk into tray, Boot to CD/DVD-ROM by pressing F12 at initial boot screens, delete existing Windows partition, re-create partition, and then follow steps to reinstall Windows. This will lead you to an option for formatting hard drive. I recommend choosing the full format versus the quick, from this point you can let windows install, or just shut the computer down when the format finishes. You will have to watch the progress, though, if you don't want the install to commence.
Boot disk option:
For XP, 95, 98, or ME, follow the instructions at this MS article page. It will walk you through creating a boot disk that will allow you to format.
Howdy,
Need the full computer name and the exact Acer Model Number. It should be on the back of the laptop. Thanks.
