Labels unexpectedly stop printing half way through a job
Hi, I am using dLabel to produce barcoded labels generated from an AS400 then downloaded to a PC in a .csv file. dLabel senses the new occurence of the file and starts to print the labels on a Ricoh IBM6700 Infoprint printer. However, sometimes the print run starts, some labels are produced and then the printer stops unexpectedly. Looking at the printer properties shows that file printing is in progress but it just seems to 'hang'.
We also have a label winder at the end of the printer which, when labels are printed, rolls them onto a constantly winding reel. I was wondering if the winder is pulling the labels through too quickly and somehow the printer senses this thus causing the printing to stop. Have you known this to happen before ?
It doesn't matter on the size of the job either, we have printed jobs with over a thousand labels without problem, and yet the problem can occur midway between a much shorter run of say, 120 labels. The printer is connected to the pc via a USB cable.
Re: labels unexpectedly stop printing half way through a...
Located winder further away from printer. Set winder to lowest possible speed setting. Thoroughly cleaned printer to remove any trace of label residue near print head and label cutter (sticky labels with pre-cut patterns are being used). No more problems reported. Will continue to monitor.

<p>Bar codes are created using the software to generate bar
code and printed on price tags with bar code printers. Tickets barcode
typically contain product information and pricing, but there are times when
prices should be adjusted to produce a product more salable. Establish a
barcode on a price tag, generating a new image of the barcode using a computer,
print the barcode image and paste the image printed on the sticker price. <br />
<p><br />
<p>1. A site of a software program that allows you to create an
image of the barcode (see Resources) to download. <br />
<p><br />
<p>2. See the homepage of the site and watch the program
interface. Choose the type of barcode you want to generate from the list
displayed. Enter the information you want to encode the space provided. Click
"Generate barcodes" to create barcode images. See the image and right
click on it to a drop-down menu to display. Click "Save image as" the
image of the barcode on your local computer store. <br />
<p><br />
<p>3. Place a sheet of paper label on the computer printer.
Open the folder where the image of the barcode. Right-click on the image of the
barcode that you saved and click on "Print" from the menu bar to
print. <br />
<p><br />
<p>4. Cut the bar code printed on the price tag to match, and
stick it in the bar code on the old price. Scan the barcode with a barcode
scanner and check the data sent to your computer. <br />
The TLP2844 can print from any windows application providing the application can use a windows printer driver. The page size oof the .pdf needs to be the same size as the physical label size.
You might want to check the barcode ratio, bar width, printer speed and printer darkness. I am assuming that you are creating the barcode in some sort of label design package, correct? You either need wider bars, or make sure you have enough quiet zone on both sides of the barcode, so shrinking it might be the solution as well.
try using a seagull sceintific driver.
also if you are sending graphics (barcode) instead of an actual barcode decoded font, the printer will process as a graphic.
If serial, speed up to max, if parallel it should print quite fast
I am using Smartforms with Intermec printer 3400-e and it works in the correct way.
What is the software that you use to build the layout of the label? In my case Loftware.
What is the code to print the Barcodes.
In my case Code 39
This is defendant on the program you use to print labels with. The printer responds to either a print job sent to the driver (like a standard windows printer). Or you can send an EPL program to the printer in order to use internal barcode generating features of the printer. The dimensions of the barcode are controlled via the EPL script. See the EPL programming guide avaialble on Zebra's website for more info.
I have WiFi Zebra QL420. In my case a simple header label prints fine then the complex label (many fields, barcode, lines & boxes) gets stuck. Labels are in separate spol files. We have many other labels printing fine, just this one ALWAYS gets stuck.
If I send same data from PC to printer it works fine.
I can see with ethernet sniffer that header label data goes but complex label doesn't even leave the iSeries. My sniffer is too crude to tell me what LPR level protocol is saying.
