Your computer may need drivers installed for your flash drive. Visit your USB drive manufacturer's website, find the "Support" page, and download the drivers for your specific drive. Be sure to know what version of your operating system you are running as it may be necessary to ensure you get compatible drivers. Install the drivers and try again.
ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.
You can use the camera without the installation CD. The CD may contain some useful photo editing program and help you download the photos from the camera to your computer using the USB cable.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
first of try your memory card by putting it in a card reader device and connect to the computer check wether it is reading or not and if it is working try to copy some image files to that and put back in the camera and check wether it is working if your camera have an in built formating option do that also so memeroy card will get detected by your camera some times if you put cards in other devices first they will ask to format the according to the devices onceits done then no problem if the problem is still there contact your camera supplier and memory card supplier sometimes in side cards there may be internal circutary breakage occurs
hey you can put your photos from your camera to your computer and view it directly but if you want to do the vice versa(i.e computer to camera) if you just like that copy the photos from your computer and paste them in your device's memeory then you cannot view them . instead you have to install the picture package transfer from your installation cd(may be a different name for nikon software) and then connect your camera via usb. open the software you installed then you should transfer the photos to camera from computer via the software only. this happens because your camera is an embedded system and its not a computer.for your information hp and nikon have nothing to do with this issue..
