My dryer does everything it's supposed to except heat. I cleaned behind the lint trap and it was pretty full. I'm thinking it might have been the cause of an overheated thermostat. I've been reading that there is a reset button, but I'm not sure where to find it. Do I have to take something off, and if so, how do I do it? Thanks, in advance!
Read this sight regarding no heat problems on a FP DEGX-1 dryer. Heat element had been working fine. Had service repair out yesterday to replace bearing that was making noise. No heat after repairman left. Reset button had not popped. After reading here, took lint trap out and one screw allows removal of lint trap cover to access to moisture sensors. Lint had piled up behind cover on top of sensors. Vacuumed out and now heat appears to be working fine. Would like to thank all who contributed these threads as it solved my problem!
There is a permanent fix to this problem. Call Fisher direct, not the service companies. Tell them what is going on and that you understand there is an improved heating element. There has been a redesign that replaces the heating elements and the thermostats. My dryer was about 4 months out of warranty but they agreed to fix once I told them I heard that there was a problem. If you can avoid A & E Factory Service...do so. They are horrible to deal with.
Since I just had a repair man out to look at mine, there are two screws--one at the front of each side just under the lid. When you remove them you can pop the top up. That exposes two more screws, one at the top of each side of the front assembly. Remove them, and pull the front off.
I had the same problem for a few months. I found some great advice on this website about a reset button on a thermostat at the bottom front of the dryer when you take the off. That worked for a while. I reset the button and disassembled the lint filter and vacuumed every time - but the problem still came back. Finally it wouldn't work all - so we dried our clothes on the low heat setting - which still worked.
I finally broke down and went here http://www.fisherpaykelparts.net/ecart/item.php?item_id=258 and bought the dryer heater kit - cost me $108 and I bought the service manual for $10. It wasn't difficult to install - I used one screw driver, and it probably took me about an hour - because I wasn't in a hurry, and I had some experience taking the damn apart to reset the thermostat.
When I took it apart to install the new elements I noticed that the small element was toast - completely burned up. So moral of the story you can probably reset the thermostat for a while and run the dryer on low heat but if you do it more than once go ahead and buy the kit.

Thanks suzyn for the screws info - I probably would have figured it out eventually but I'm sure you saved me a lot of time. It took me all of 5 minutes to take the front off hit the Red reset button and put it back together. It's working great - hope it lasts. For those wondering - the reset button is a kind of flimsy small red button near the bottom-middle. At first I was looking for something that said reset but that was the only thing that looked like a button so I pushed it and bingo bango bongo I'm good to go. My wife will be so happy!
For those of you that have to keep reseting the heat thermostat button on the front of the heating element on your dryer:
1. Make sure the vent pipe is not blocked with lint or kinked blocking the air flow.
2. if the thermostatic reset keep knocking, check to see that the heating elements are not shorted together on the inside of the dual element heating chamber. Shorted elements get hotter and make the thermostatic button trip. ( Usually though, the element burns out first)
3. If all of the above checks out OK, Replace the thermostatic reset module.
4. Of course, there is always the expensive Service Man if all else fails.......Bummer

I pressed the reset button also on the front but I wan able to tilt mine up and see it with a flashlight without taking the panel off hit the button...worked for me.
Well my dryer won't heat up and its the thermostat for model LE7685XPW1 and part 694674 but I took off burnt parts on wire and reattached and it works fine.
I have a F&P dualcare dryer (AD55AU),mine is not heating i cleaned behind the lint trap & pipe & it was fill.I been reading that there is a reset button but I can't find it or is the element burn out if so how do I replace it. please help.from ROD.

Our dryer stopped heating one month before the two year warranty was up. Found a lot of lint behind the bucket which I cleaned. On ours, the sensor right above the red button was open. This sensor and also the other sensor attached to the blue wire must both be closed, for the heating elements to come on. (Think of these as a switch)
You can confirm this by removing the wires from the sensors and checking continuity red wire from volt meter on one terminal and black wire from volt meter on the other terminal. The meter should beep, or show closed. I was able to get mine fixed by hitting the bimetal piece briefly with a lighter and I heard it click. It cooled almost instantly and clicked again. After that it was working fine, must have gotten stuck open. Plan on replacing it any regard in case it fails again. Or, maybe they will give me an upgraded heater.
The hardest part was getting the front panel back on.....
If the little plastic tabs by the feet are the slightest bit tweaked, use a razor knife to trim them so they fit in easily.
I called F&P and they recommended me to a local authorized repair shop.
Is this the path you took? If not, who exactly did you contact?
Elec engr is correct. Our dryer is out of warranty, but F & P replaced and upgraded the heating element for free. Unfortunately, we did have to pay for the labor. No problems since, and drying time is much improved.

remove plugs on each side of top under lid remove 2 phillips screws lift top remove screws on inside top each corner ..front will pull forward and off look on element assembly for reset button on small round thermostat press to reset..be sure you have clean lint screen and housing behind it ckd vent to outside also element may be shorted together causing it not to shut off properly when temp is reached
Poor air flow would be my guess. How long is the vent hose? Does it have more than one angle/turn before venting outside? Is the lint gathering around the outer edges of the door? Keeping the length of air travel shorter will improve the operation.

please check your exhaust vent, where the dryer air comes out of the house, this particular pattern is very indicitive of a slow moving exhaust, you may need to clean the duct between the machine and exhaust as well

Got it! Had to take off the front panel by removing 4 screws and voila! Pushed the reset button and it's heating.
My reset button has tripped after trying to run the dryer twice. I have cleaned out the area around and behind the lint trap. suggestions?
I have been having the same problem for over a month! I have clean and vacuumed lent trap. I have replaced air hose because it was too long and had many kinks in it so I replaced it with a smaller hose. I have checked and reset electric circuit boards and the little red button on the front of the dryer...It has worked and then stopped working again and again and again.
I am at my wits end and I am finally getting a repair person to look at it this friday! I am done!

I having the same issue with our dryer. I have reset the button circuit board so many times that I am tempted to drill a hole in the front cover where the reset button is so I don't have to keep taking the front cover off.
For those of you that called a repairman, what was the solution?
My (piece of garbage, $850) Fisher & Paykel dryer has been doing the same thing since the day I bought it. It starts drying less and less efficiently, taking up to 3 80-minute cycles to dry a single load, and then just stops heating altogether.
I've had a repairman out 5 times, and they can't find a thing "wrong" with it. They remove the front panel and hit the reset button, and the dryer works for awhile and then it starts it's familiar pattern of failure. The worst part is that it is staying "Fixed" for a shorter and shorter amount of time between repair visits. No one can tell WHY it keeps needing to be reset.
This is, obviously, a problem inherent in a very expensive dryer. Is F&P looking into this? I have a 4-year extended warranty (Thank god I bought that!), but it is getting really old having my dryer out of commission this often.
Same here. First stopped heating when the vent was clogged. Cleared the vent, hit reset, was okay for a month. Now I need to reset it every few days; vent is clear.
Anyone got an answer for this? There must be a bad sensor somewhere.

The last repairman that came out said that from his limited experience with these "delicate" machines, they seem to need DIRECT venting. Despite the fact that the installation instructions indicate that 30+ feet of venting tube is allowable with a maximum of 3 turns, we had far less than this and yet that seems to have been the cause of the lack of heating and the constant need to "reset" the thermostat.
Luckily my husband is contractor. He put a hole in the wall directly behind the heater and has the vent making a straight shot into the garage. No turns and only about 20" of tubing. And guess what? The dryer has actually run for a month without breaking down, AND it dries faster and better than it has since the day I bought it.

I successfully took the front panel off to find a green wire there not attached to anything. The one end is attached, apparently ground to the floor of the dryer. Does anyone know where the other end, a clip, might belong. I looked for the Staples "EASY" button and it was nowhere to be found. THanks in advance
my dryer is working except for heat no heat at all and it wont stop the cycle.
I have had the same problem for over a year. Finally had a repair person out who replaced the thermostat and housing (at a cost of $300 for parts and labor!) Unfortunately my warranty was up. Now the dryer still takes an hour and 1/2 do dry a single medium sized load and lint is still building up behind the vent! I wrote a letter to the company asking for my money back! Has anyone written to F&P? Did you get a response?
Will do everything but heat. I have cleaned the lint trap and snaked the entire exhaust leading to the outside.
How do you get to the reset button?
Our dryer quit heating and we replaced the thermostat, heating element and still not heating.
I had the same problem. No heat. I took the front off and found the reset button. I pushed the button and put everything back together. Worked fine for a few minutes then heat stopped again. I guess I'll call Fisher and see if they will send me a new heating element. Mine is still on warranty so I assume they will probably want me to contact repair first.
When I hit the reset button, with the dryer plugged it, should the heating element immediately warm up? The unit is not turned on...Sorry, I am ignorant to these things. I would expect a pilot if it was a gas dryer but didn't thinnk the element would heat just by resetting
