SOURCE: Dell GX280 no display

I solved this on a Dell GX280 by removing the CPU and then reseating it in the socket. Also cleaned cpu and heatsink and applied new thermal compound.

SOURCE: Dell Precision 380 won't boot

I had a similar situation with a work computer; the power supply always tested good. A wiser and more experienced computer guru ordered a new power supply. He gave it to me told me to install it, I did and was laughing the whole time. Well it in fact was the power supply. Reason, power supplies are funny like that, they may test good under ideal conditions which is a minimum load put on the unit (enough to boot your system). They are not tested with the stresses of maintaining all your fans, hard drives, mother board, video card, monitor, CD drives, mouse, and keyboard. Its when those loads are applied is when the unit either surges or it is faulty and cannot maintain. First try finding some way to test that suspected bad circuit. If that's not it I would try replacing the power supply, that MAY NOT be your problem but it is certainly CHEAPER than replacing your processor and/or mother board. You could also have a hard drive problem; most drives have self testing features that are partitioned separate from the rest of drive. You can also try plugging your drive into a good computer and see if it boots.

I'll warn you though issues such as yours can take you down a costly road trying to trouble shoot. The components you are thinking of replacing pretty much will give you a brand new computer.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: dell vostro 200 4 repeated beeps on start up

Disconnect all devices from the power supply EXCEPT the motherboard
Remove any extra cards including video etc.(plug monitor into the onboard)

If you hear any beeps these can indictate where the fault is.
either of these sites below will help you further with that

Beep codes P
c

More beep codes

Power up the pc and see if the fans are working.
If not then double check the power connections to the board.

If you still have no fans it is time to suspect the power supply as the probable cause.

If the fans worked then you should have gotten a display which told you there was an error and offering you a chance to go into the BIOS. ignore it and shut down the PC.

Now connect one drive only and boot again.

Repeat that until you identify the component that is giving you a problem.

Once you find the problem then remove or disconnect and carry on with the rest to see if another component might also cause a problem

If there is only one problem device then you may want to investigate that device further, Unless you don't mind replacing it

SOURCE: My vostro 200 slim tower wont turn on PLZ READ FULL

There could be a hardware problem on the computer if the power button led light is "Orange/ or amber", if you can open the computer, try removing one memory card at a time and see if the power button will change.

Dell vostro 1510 wont turn on. flashing blue light!

If only 1 light flashes, first check your memory (RAM) and make sure it is seated properly in the slot. If you have some more memory you can install just for a test, that may help. If it is no the memory it is a motherboard or processor issue that will require professional service.

My laptop Vostro 1320 wont boot up anymore. The power button light goes on, the battery light doesnt, but the 'nr. 9 lock' is flashing, along with the 'A' and 'arrow down' lock are...

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

It's also possible that your motherboard is problematic.

Hope this helps.

My dell vostro 1710 laptop computer screen is black.

First, try reseating the memory modules in the laptop.

If still nothing, try removing the hard drive, CD/DVD Drive, and memory one at a time (in that order) see if anything makes it boot.

Replace the parts and try booting again.

The error flashing means a processor failure. If you are knowledgeable you can try re-seating the processor.

However, if your unit is in warranty I would call Dell and have them replace the main board and the memory modules as a set. Warning: They will make you go thru these same tests even if you already have.

Heard pop and dell vostro 1000 cut off and will not come back on

Based on the symptoms (Power light on cord is on when not connected to laptop but goes out as soon as you plug it in), the motherboard has to be replaced. YOu may call dell to ask about their out-of-warranty depot or you can call their spare parts sales dept to purchase the motherboard, then find a local tech to replace it.

Won't Start No lights flashing does nothing when I hit the power button

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty.
If not, try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty.
Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.

Update Dell Vostro 1000 BIOS now wont turn on, nothing on display

You may be in for some trouble, a failed bios update isn't always an easy fix. if you can find the cmos battery try to remove that for a few seconds. you will also need a disk version of the bios, download that from dell on another computer and copy it to floppy or cd and see if you can boot to that and reinstall the bios.

when you press the power button what happens, does it light up and run the fan? Nothing appears on the screen?
