Fraser Johnston Furnace - Not heating

Hi. My house has a Fraser Johnston furnace (builder fit). Since the past week or so, the furnace does not supply adequate heat to the home. Thermostat (Honeywell) is set at 23 deg. C and the ambient/room temp is 20-21 deg. With these settings, the furnace does not want to heat up the house (or at least the room) to 23 deg. It stops between 20.5-21 deg. The only way to restart heat is to turn the unit off (power switch) or thermostat. Please help.

Check the furnace filter to make sure its not dirty . Dity airvfilters can cause the furnace to overheat and shut off on a high temperature limit switch when the switchs cools down it resets but the furnace has to be shut off to reset the control board. Hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Hi Bobalix. I thought I added this information on the FIXYA site before posting my problem. Thanks for the suggestion. I have already changed the air filter and replaced the batteries from the Thermostat unit."

One other thing you can check is the condensate drain piping if it is a condensing furnace. If the drain is partially plugged the condensate can slowly back up into the furnace causing it to lock out. the liquid then slowly drains out so when you reset the furnace it comes on again. Another thing to check is your heat and return registers. Make sure heatvregisters are fully open and return air grilles are not blocked by anything( furniture etc.) Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I installed a Intertherm Furnace and A/C unit with

The C on the furnace is an Optional terminal, and is meant to be a low voltage wire, just like terminal Y. Disconnect the wire from the furnace terminal C and you should be fine.

Renting and Paying the Gas Bill

This past week I changed out an old hot air furnace in a rental unit that made me question why the tenant did not go to the owner and offer to pay more rent in exchange for getting the furnace changed out sooner. If you are a renter that is paying the gas bill, then you need to think about this.
The hot air furnace was at least 60 years old. It had been coal fired furnace that was converted to gas many decades ago. The pilot light of this beast was more of a torch than a pilot light. When the thermostat called for heat the flame roared for 15 minutes before the exterior blower unit that was added when the furnace was converted to gas, started up to move air through the furnace and into the house.

As I was starting up the new unit, which took up less than 1/3 of the space of the old beast, the renter came and sat down on the basement steps looking on in amazement. How would that little thing make enough heat for the house? A few minutes later those questions were put to rest very quickly.

After starting the new furnace and burning off the oil that always smokes up the house a bit on a new startup the new little unit had the house warm as toast and was shutting down. Wow, that took less time than the old beast took to just warm up!

The renter related to me how that the old furnace cost over one hundred dollars a month just to run the pilot over the summer months. The wintertime heating bills were many times higher than that. The difference between the bills of the old unit and the bills that will be coming now will be unbelievable. A savings of 40-50% is not at all out of the question.

Now, if you are renting and are paying the bill to feed an old monster of a heating system, I suggest that you make a proposal to your landlord. Offer to pay a bit more rent in exchange for a new heating system. Not only will you decrease your gas bills enough to pay some extra rent and still come out ahead, but you will have the peace of mind that you have a safer heating system under the roof that you also live under.

My frigidaire furnace will not heat it just hums

Lori without doing a full service check. I would recommend a dead power reset. First shut everything off on the unit then , Go to the breaker that supplys power to the unit shut it off 5-10 secs. then back on then try turning unit on. This may be a long shot but sometimes it will release a lockout fault if it strarts and then locks out again. Just wait foe service tech. Hope this helps.

I'm interested in buying this furnace from someone. it is new and wrapped in plastic so i took a picture and thought i could find out about it model #tg9s100 c16 mp 11 95% what year is it and how can...

the company that makes this unit (Fraser Johnston) has the ISO 2001 logo on their
website. The compliance date for ISO is between 2008 and November 2010 so
I would venture a solid guess that the 9 in the first 3 digits is the manufacturing year

I have a Trane 90XL installed in 2001which has been running great for 10 years. Now in very cold temperatures this week there is water seeping from the base of the unit. Water is slightly yellow/green in...

Make sure all of the condensate lines are open. The Hose and traps from the furnace. With the cold weather the Furnace is running alot more and Condensing more water from the Flue Gases.
The Furnace can produce up to 5 Gals of water in an 8 hour period. If the drains are all open then you better get a professional to check out the furnace you could have a cracked secondary Heat exchanger which could be leaking carbon monxide into the house. Do you have a CO2 Detector in the house??

New GMH80703AN two stage convertible.converted to LP. regulator on tank and a low pressure regulator next to furnace .I can hear and feel the furnace gas valve but no gas coming Thur to orifice

1.You could have a empty propane tank. 2 The regulator could be frozen. Has it rained or snowed recently? If so there is a vent on the regulator that could be plugged. I have had to thaw out 4 of these in the past week. Its simple unhook it and it bring it in the house and warm it with a heat gun or blow dryer for about 5 minutes.

Furnace/air cond. blower motor is smoking

I recently installed a horizontal gas furnace. All the electrical and gas supply was done correctly for sure, but upon the trial run, some smoke was coming out the supply lines into the house. I used some flex duct tape to seal all ductwork for air leaks. I also used some inside the first box coming off the heat exchangers to seal the inside of the box for leaks. Could the tape be burning because its to close to the heat exchangers and smoking or is it because its because its brand new and the heat exchanges have to burn a while? Please help
