99 SLS overheating

Changed the coolant already and the cap on the resvoir still runs hot...could it be the ECT sensor..or the fan relay...one more thing...when the gauge is past the half way mark...once I start moving the gauge goes back to the half way mark ...so I think that it is the fan relay

thanks

The diagram is not much useful if can't understand it can anyone tell me witch sensor is for my coolant fans 2004 Malibu classic

https://eautorepair.net/Marketing/Default.asp

No engine told so the HUNT ENds. now.
2.2L or 3.1L? engine./ (USA choice day1 new , 2 engines)
the manual is clear.
rad fan rear? dead, it can be hot wire tested.!
the ECT sensor is used. on all modern cars,,
if PCM scans fail to show ECT failing it is no failing
it will read using any real scan tool PID live data ECT at 180F to 200F
the same manual tells you the trip point, to run the fan, most cars are about 220F, 165F is boiling so 220f is NOT TOO HOT.
if the ECT reads correctly to REALITy, it is NOT BAD ever.
we use an IR THERMAL GUN TO PROVE THAT IN SECONDS WORK.
IF ENGINE IS TOO HOT, AND FOR SURE FAN IS DEAD
THE ECT MAY BE IN AN AIR POCKET AND THAT MAKES IT LIE;.
MAKE SURE FIRST ALL AIR IS BURPED OUT OF THE COOLANT LOOP.
THE CAR HAS LOW COOLANT SWITCH, AGAIN SCAN PCM SEE IT FAIL?
THERE ARE 2 FANS AND 3 RELAYS THE PCM CONTROLS
RELAY 28,29,AND 30
AND FUSE 17 AND FUSE 18 FOR FANS
Engine coolant must be drained below the level of the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
HERE IT IS #1
F = FLY WHEEL MEANS TRANNY END OF ENGINE.
T= THERMOSTAT.

ect-undefined-undefined-0_0.jpg I BET IT IS GOOD AS 99% ARE REPLACED GUESSING
I'D SAY BAD FUSES X2,BAD RELAYS X3 FIRST.
OR AIR POCKET WHERE #1 RESIDES, LEARN PURGE AND BURP ALL AIR OUT OF THE COOLANT LOOP.
THE FANS ONLY RUN WHEN THE PCM WANTS TO OR ECT READ SUPER HIGH, 220f UP.
OK FOUND IT IN THE MANUAL

223°F) the low speed engine cooling fans should engage.

At 110°C (230°F) the high speed engine cooling fans should engage.

SO 223 AND 230F ARE THE TRIP POINTS
SO 200F NORMAL ,NEVER RUNS FANS

Can either of these codes cause my 1999 Oldsmobile bravada SUV to over heat: P0442 ornP1361 or P0117??

code p 0442 refers to EVAP system so that is unlikely
check the fan operation and if you have a viscous fan hub ( fan clutch ) replace it
if you have electric fans , check coolant temperature sensor for operation , fuses , relay and fans
overheating is from low coolant levels , head gaskets/cracked heads, blocked radiator cores , fins flaking off core tubes, incorrect timing, blocked exhaust( cat converter)problem thermostat, over loading /over speeding, overdrive not engaging
if you over heating is predominately at lights , slow moving traffic or high engine rpms with low speed --check the fan operation and if it is viscous fan hub driven --replace the hub or if electric fans have that circuit checked out

2000 daewoo leganza is overheating, leaking anti freeze, and water. what is wrong?

sound like thermostat sticking close.replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap.if already done.you could have faulty water pump.if engine overheating at long slow traffic line or setting at a stand still.the engine cooling fans should be running, check and see if cooling fans running if not, check cooling fans fuses and relays.if all is good, hot wire make sure coolings fans okay.if all is good, code scan vechicle for faulty engine coolant temperature sensor and ecm problems.you need a code scanner where you can check live data check see if coolant temperature sensor reading correctly if engine coolant temperature is 190 degrees the coolant sensor. the scanner suppose to show 190 degrees in temperature if not it reads 80 or 90 degrees the engine coolant temperature sensor is faulty need replacing.if all is good check engine oil if look like milk shake blow head gasket will cause over heating.to be on the safe side i would replace thermostat and radiator pressure cap first.to make sure engine coolant circulating through radiator and engine block.

My 99 Honda Accords keeps overheating on and off when my car is on park or at a long stop. What can be the problem?

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN CHECK SEE IF COOLING FAN RUNNING.WHILE CAR OVERHEATING. IF NOT CHECK COOLING FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR COULD BE FAULTY.HOT WIRE SEE COOLANT FAN WORKS IF NOT, COOLING FAN MOTOR BAD NEED REPLACING.IF COOLING FAN MOTOR WORKING PROBLEM COULD BE IN FAN MOTOR WIRING OR PCM FAILED.

I have a 1998 1/2 Lincoln Town Car. Yes, some of the parts were changed over that year, as to why I am saying 98 1/2 At any rate, the car is overheating. I have changed the thermostat and radiator cap,...

maybe your cooling fan isnot working, electric under the hood.

Can you hear it come on when ou turn a/c on? It should also come on when engine coolant temp sensor gets hot enough to tell the computer to turn it on.

So, check fan motor operation ECT Sensor operation, & a/c making cooling fan run too.

Engine fan won't come on

IF COOLANT FAN FUSE AND RELAY OKAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT FAN TO SEE IF FAN MOTOR OKAY.IF FAN MOTOR OKAY.THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR MORE LIKELY BAD.THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR WHEN ENGINE COOLANT GETS HOT IT CAUSES ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE TO DECREASE CAUSE COMPLETE CIRCUIT IN WHICH POWER FROM PCM TO ECT SENSOR WILL SENT POWER TO COOLANT FAN RELAY THEN CAUSE COOLANT FAN TO TURN ON. HAVE ECT SENSOR OR ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHECK USING CODE SCANNER TO MAKE SURE ITS WORKING BEFORE SPENDING EXCESS MONEY.

Overheating my car continuously overheat

CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT LEVEL AND REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND THE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF CAR OVERHEATING AND COOLING FAN NOT WORKING.CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF BOTH OKAY,HOT WIRE COOLANT FAN,IF FAN WORKS, PROBLEM COULD BE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR,OR FAULTY PCM, IF COOLING FAN DONT WORK WHEN YOU HOT WIRE FAN.THE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY NEED REPLACING.

99 honda odyssey coolant fans turn too late

You might need a new ECT - engine coolant temperature sensor. If it's not reading the correct coolant temperature it's not going to tell the fan to turn on when it should.

Is the check engine light illuminated? I'd bet the ECT needs replacement.
