Defective touch pad or clock (ERC)

This simple test will help determine whether the ERC (Electronic Range Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when F1 error code is present.

Note: Some models incorporate the touch pad in to the ERC as a single assembly, in which case this test is not necessary. Simply replace the ERC (Clock).

Warning: If you feel in any way uncomfortable performing this test or making this repair, please contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing.
2. Gain access inside the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC.
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was.
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).
7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

My electric wall oven won't stay on. We replaced the baking element and were good for awhile. The broiler element works fine. It is a 15 year old Maytag, no error codes appear

maybe when changing the element you disturbed the oven thermostat probe which is now to close to or touching the element, probe should be clipped into place with clips inside the oven

Maytag double electric oven. we turn on to bake and would switch to broil then will turn off.

Assuming this is on a gas range, the bake burner ( under the oven floor) and the broil burner ( at the top of the oven) have electric igniters . When switching from bake to broil the broiler goes off due to a defective or broken broil igniter. cheap part to replace ( +-$40.00)

My mom has a 2003 maytag precision top control 500 electric smoothtop oven. problem- uneven heating and also seems to need to bake on a higher heat than recommended.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

This indicates a open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. If you wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter for around 1100ohms....if it reads more then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around or less then 1100ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

My Maytag Performa oven and stove top will not turn on (heat up)

When I turn on my Maytag performa using the "bake" function, everything looks ok on the display, however the temp. never rises above 100. I've tried "bake" and "convect", and neither one work. "Clean" doesn't work either. The oven will lock, and display shows that it's heating up, but temp. never rises.
However....."broil" feature works just fine.
Please help.

The bake on my oven does not heat up ? what's the problem

Hi and welcome to FixYa.com!

First thing to check is the bake element. Examine it for signs of blisters or cracks. If you have a VOM, check it for continuity. It is likely that your problem is just a open bake element. Very common problem.

Hope this helps you and Happy New Year from the FixYa crew!
