Dell Inspiron Screen Shake

Okay so my Dell Inspiron 1480 (which really isn't that old) has been acting up. All of a sudden, my screen started to spaztically shake up and down, except for the top 1/2 inch, which remains perfectly fine. Between the two sections is a horizontal green/grey line. I haven't done anything especially cruel to it in the past few days or anything. PLEASE tell me it's something that doesn't cost money because I, being a teenager, have none. Help?

Sorry, can't tell you "no cost fix".

Either you've got a motherboard-screen cable failure(harsh, but not too bad) or you're
video card is fritzing. The green/grey line usually indicated a line break in a data line of the monitor cable. The fuzzy shaking is an indication that one of the sync signals may also be compromised.

To eliminate the video card as the problem... plug a monitor into the external video port, and see if the error is ghosted there.

If this doesn't work, Dell actually has some pretty good tools for you to use in troubleshooting it for yourself. The troubleshooter page begins here. There is a good video of using dell's built-in-to-laptops LCD screen test utility here.

Hope it helps you.

Dell inspirion 2200 notebook screen really dim cant see hooked up another monitor and it works . how can i fix?

Hello,
If your screen is dim but still displays everything then please check if the screen's brightness has not been accidentally reduced. If that is okay, then you have a damaged screen inverter and it needs to be changed. If the screen does not display at all, then you may have to change your screen.

All the best.

Dell Inspiron 6000 about 3 years old. When I boot up, sometimes it goes through the early Windows XP screens and then goes to a blank screen. It indicates that activity is going on but cannot see it on the...

The screen cable is most likely damaged. Try connecting an external monitor. If it works, you need to take the computer to a repair center to have the cable changed.

My laptop screen is acting up

Sorry to hear about your laptop. As far as what you have described, it seem that what you are having is already a hardware issue. The best way to test is to go into the bios or system setup screen. Since you are using a dell computer the best thing to do is to test first. Restart the computer and when you see the Dell logo start tapping the F2 key on the keyboard. From there see if you will still get the same issue with the screen. If you do the best thing to do is to recall if you still have a Hardware Warranty. If you do.. better to call up the Hardware technical support department and get your laptop fixed (If you have hardware warranty then they will support you without any fee). If not Dell has an expired warranty support department however for the diagnostics you will be asked for a fee and most likely asked to purchase a part and have that computer sent for repairs (again for a fee.). If when you are in the bios / system setup screen and you are not having the same issue then that is a good sign. The best thing to do is to backup everything.. your documents and so on.. make sure that you have all the CDs that came with the system. Now you could do either a PC restore or Operating System Reinstallation after you have backed up your files... If you do not have an active hardware warranty. I think it is best to tell your mom to get that fixed.

Dell Inspiron 2200 monitor issue

Could be that the monitor is going out, but it sounds more like a connector has worked loose or corroded and isn't making a good contact. Check and clean the screen connection, screen to inverter, and screen to motherboard.
