Press and hold the power button for fifteen seconds or so, ignoring the "Shut down?" prompt, until it turns off. Release the button then press and hold it for a second or two until it starts to reboot.

SOURCE: how to unfreeze kindle screen? my kindle screen has froze

Hey

Well there are a lot of reasons why the Kindle screen freeze.

most of the times it happens when the Kindle is trying to upload some big files like photos, movies, flash etc. in this case all you have to do it to wait and it will un-freeze in couple of seconds.

Another Very common is that the Kindle Memory is full and he can't respond until some of the memory gets free, this usually will happen once you click too many times on the screen, the poor Kindle is overwhelmed with orders and doesn't know what to do, this happens to "newbies" with the kindle.

A lot of these freezing problems can be fixed by resting your Kindle, you can do a Soft reset press the Alt-Shift-R keys at the same time. (Shift is the one that looks like an up arrow.) If that doesn't work, plug your Kindle into the charger and try again.

You can also do a Hard Reset take the cover off the back and insert a paperclip in the little hole. Hold for 10 seconds, you may need to try again with the Kindle plugged into the cradle.

For the Kindle DX Hold the top on/off switch sliding it to the left and keep to the left, hold for 60-80 Sec, Release it. Wait a minute - the DX will flash. Then the screen will go black and then the main Kindle screen (the guy sitting under the tree) will appear and the start up thermometer bar. Once that's completed, the main menu will come on, and your books will be rstored in batches over the next couple of minutes

And of course you can always Call Amazon Customer Service at 1-866-321-8851, 6a-10p PST, 7 days a week

Hope this will be helpful

I was reading a novel on my kindle when the screen froze up. I tried to reboot by holding the off button for one minute, to no avail. What do I do now?

Suggest to be sure your Kindle is charged up. There are several generations of these devices. Search for reboot procedure online for example ... "reboot kindle 3rd generation".

Either wait for it to die completely and turn it back on or hard boot it (holding down the power button till it shuts off).

Kindle just turns off lately when gets warm. Happened twice today while playing games.

Is it any particular game that causes this? If so unintall it.
Turn the screen brightness down to reduce the amount of heat produced. However this is a workaround that doesn't fix the fault.
Also try running the games just after starting the tablet before you open up anything else, so its the first thing you run.

Kindle locked up and now can't get it to turn on.

I have the same problem. The screen saver is partially frozen on the screen on the upper right corner and then blank down the rest of the right side. The rest of the screen is readable and I'm able navigate (turn pages, select different books, etc).

Did you figure anything out? Help!

Non responsive (battery is fully charged). Screen has frozen up.

There is a reset button at the bottom (insert paper clip in pinhole). If all attempts trying to unfreeze it fail, you may have a logic board issue. Are you sure the Kindle powers up? Try to power up your Kindle with a different battery. If that fails, you can get the part at Kindle Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at Kindle Repair Guide.
