SLOW, SLOW PRINTING

THIS IS AN OLDER PRINTER THAT WE TAKE WITH US IN THE MOTOR HOME. THE SLOW PERFORMANCE STARTED LAST YEAR, TAKING SEVERAL MINUTES TO PRINT A HALF PAGE OF BLACK FAST DRAFT. I BOUGHT A NEW PRINTER HP DESKJET D4200 SERIES AND IT WASN'T A WHOLE LOT FASTER SO THIS YEAR I BROUGHT THE OLDER SMALLER 3550 WITH JUST A BLACK CARTRIDGE, NO COLOUR NEEDED. IT SEEMS THAT EVERYOTHER PINTER I SEE PRINTS MUCH, MUCH FASTER THAT MY HP's NOW. SUCH WAS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. WHEN I GOT THE 3550 IT WAS QUITE FAST. THE D4200 ON THE OTHER HAND HAS BEEN REALITIVELY SLOW MOST OF THE TIME. IT DOES SEEM TO PRINT THINGS FROM THE INTERNET FAIRLY FAST BUT PRINTING FROM MY QUATTRO PRO AND WORD PERFECT PROGRAMS IT IS SLOW. HELP, JAKE AUSTIN

Large .pdf files do occasionally take a while to load and print. Do you experience the same delays when you print small documents or photos?

If you do, the first thing to address is the age of the printer. The 1400 was first released several years ago. The latest revision of driver software was, to the best of my knowledge, Nov 2008. If you have gotten 3 good years of heavy use out of that printer, you're doing better than many for an inkjet printer. It should still work well though if it's been maintained properly. So...

Try 'uninstalling' all software associated softare then restarting your computer. Once you do that, re-install the software. This is something of a task, however it is your best bet to fix the problem.

With an older printer, sometimes your computer's OS software gets updated and doesn't work and play well with older periferals. You may need to roll back your OS software to the previous version that worked properly.

Lastly, you may just want to get a new printer. It's doubtful that you actually NEED to do this, but it would be simple.

Hopefully this helps!

LaserJet 5Si printing slow use to be able to hit the print key then the printer would fire away. seems like the printer pauses between pages then prints maybe 3 to 4 pages per minute

Could be software. I have seen the last several Adobe latest version documents take several seconds to print. I have also seen increased print times with MS office 2003 Powerpoint documents. If it is a single page MS Word or Excel document and u are printing several copies of it, you should turn off the collate feature for printing of that document

How do I overcome extremely slow printing, sometimes from an interface with the computer and sometimes just the printer itself?

On a very high resolution setting, a lot of data has to be transfered and that takes time. Sometimes the program generating the data has to re-sample the data which requires massive math work to resize and pixelate the data.

The printer itself may have to do a lot of crunching of the data.

The idea is to lessen the load on the system. Taking a mega-pixel photo from a camera and selecting very high resolution printing can take several minutes just to print one photo.

I suspect that you are looking at a flow control issue and not a printer failure.

You can check the printer driver and make sure your printer options for background printing.

Also, make sure that your document is not too busy. I've had customers complain about slow printing documents and when I examined the documents, I discovered that there were multiple images overlay ed. The data still had to be sent, but only the top image printed.

Computer start up slow after loading printer software

check the Task manager for the Process that is taking a lot of CPU usage. It might be "spoolsv.exe"
Go to Start >> Run (press windows key + R on Vista) and in the run dialog box type "services.msc" without the quotes and press Enter. Services window will open up. Search for Print Spooler service, right click on it and click Stop, Now check the performance of PC. Restart the service again and then check again. In case the issue is not a major one, it should be resolved but if the PC becomes slow again on restarting the service, uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the Printer again.

Slow Printing

it may just be a slow printer head, maybe an upgrade is in order. look on the box for page printing speed.
it may also be that you have the resolution set too high for basic printing. try turning this down slightly.

hope this helps.

Printer slow to respond to print command

I had this issue also. Found it to be a firewall issue.

Norton Internet Security, Vista Home Premium.

I ended up having to create a rule to allow inbound TCP from the laptop on port 135. Fixed it.

ps. Be careful setting up such a rule. Several worms make use of exploits on this port. I was very careful only to allow the laptop to loopback to itself.
