Does the camera work with the a/c power adapter?
If not then it could be something internal.
But if it works with the adapter, your batteries are bad or your battery terminals are dirty.
But just to be safe I would replace the back-up battery which is locate in the screen pocket of the camera. its a CR-2025 Nickel Cadmium battery
also I don;t know if you have a manual but here is a link to one.

My canon gl2 lcd screen and viewfinder black

Same thing happened to me. No display, no menu, no S-video output while in camera mode, but in VCR mode all was OK. Turning power off and on did not help until I also disconnected the AC power adapter. BTW, Mr. Riggins did not read the question before he answered.

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

How to chrge it?

You will need a charger like the one listed below. Just remove the battery and place it on the charger.

CA-920 Compact Power Adapter
This is the standard charger and power source for the GL2. It will charge one battery at a time.

Battery/Charge Problems with my MC7801u Laptop

try draining power first from system, take battery and adapter out then push and hold power button for 1 min. after try powering your computer with adapter only, then try with battery, if same thing, means you have bad battery.

Cassette Jam

The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack. Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening the cassette compartment cover. When the cover is fully open, the videocassette will eject automatically. Please try the following procedures. 1. Attach the power source to the camcorder correctly or use a fully-charged battery pack. 2. Fully-open the cassette compartment cover until it stops while sliding and holding the OPEN/EJECT switch. The videocassette will eject automatically after a few seconds.
