I tried all of the above, but nothing worked. The error message continued to appear as soon as I would turn on the printer and blocked whatever function. I had it back in the shop to service it, but they just told me not to spend any money on it and buy a new one. So did HP itself when I contacted them.
I finally ran accross this, which took of the errore message and now actually the printer is working like before.
I had the USB disconnected, the power cord disconnected as well and all the cartridges taken our, just as written in the instructions above. But then turning on the printer again, I hold down the OK and HELP button. And that did the trick for me: My C5180 would turn on and then switch itself of after a while. I then stopped to hold down the buttons and turned it on normally (still no USB connected) It did all the setup (language, country, ecc.) and then finally told me that the cartridges were missing. I reinstalled them and turned back to normal.
Hope it'll be of help for some of the many desperate HP users.
I tried everything mentioned above and the printer still does not work - the printer is about three years old but rarely used... is this just a faulty product from HP?
Hi
These error codes indicate that the product has an internal error condition. First you need to try and reset the product
NOTE:
The USB cable connects to the port on the back of the product. The port is labeled with the USB icon
If you have completed all the steps listed above and you are still experiencing a problem, then the only option would be to service the product.
Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.
