I have a Jet 3 power chair. I recently had 2 new motors and batteries installed. I am having problems with the batteries holding a charge. I charge them every night for 10+ hrs. It shows full charge in the morning. I can go just around my house and it will go down 3-4 bars. I contacted the company and they have replaced the batteries 3 times and I have the same problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Took back to dealer. They have replaced wiring harness, controller, motors, battery charger and batteries. I still can't go very far before battery meter shows going down 2 bars. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: need to remove the bad batteries Jet 3 power chair

Hello Donald ,
You may have solved this problem by now ,but just in case you have not, here goes.

Make sure the chair is turned off and engauged in the drive mode meaning not in the free wheeling mode. This way it will not roll around on you during the battery change out.

Go to the rear of the chair and slightly turn the two black plastic lock pins, one on each side they actually lock the small )) shaped cover in place. Turn these with your fingers or you can also insert a dime in the slot on top of each pin to turn them . You will be able to tell when they have unlocked as the )) shaped cover will be loose. Lift the cover up and under it you will find the battery connector, unplug it and leave the cover off for now.

Next ,move to the front of the chair and just to the rear of the footplate you will find a locking pin that runs through the lower rear bar of the footplate as well as the chair frame itself . Pull this pin completely out. Once done you should be able to pull the entire footplate assembly out torward you, Black plastic front cover included. Once you have it pulled outward lift it upward and it should lift completely off the chair. This done , you should actually be looking at the front battery which is sitting in a black plastic tray. Gently but with a firm grip grab the tray anyplace you can and slowy begin to slide it out from under the chair torward you taking care not to tangle the battery connector at the rear with any other wiring on its way out. Once you have the tray slid out into the open ,you will be looking at both batteries after which you will need to unhook the straps that secure the Batteries to the tray after which you will need grab your wrenches and remove the battery harness itself from each battery. You may want to do just one battery at a time this way you'll have less wiring to keep track of when wiring in the new Batteries. The Batteries in your Jet 3 are a size known as U-1 deep cycle sealed maint. free batts, You can use either Gel Cell or seale3d LA replacements . Though they are much cheaper, you cannot use lawn tractor batteries. Though they look the same the internal technology between medical powered mobility batteries and tractor batteries are entirely different. The latter would only run your chair for maybe a half hour or so before needing charge.
Take great care to make sure your wiring hookups are correct and that you position the rear connector plug to the rear of the tray. This way you will be able to locate it easier once you have slid the tray back in under the chair and it is time to go to the rear of the chair and reconnect that plug. As for everything else ,reattach it in reverse of the way you removed it including remembering to slide the lockpin back into the front footplate frame. Give a tug on the footplate when done to make sure it is locked and secure.
In closing I offer this valuable advice : When working with any of these batteries, always were safety glasses or goggle and gloves (terminals are lead). I also advise removal of metal rings ,watches, bracelets etc that could create a short when reaching in and around the battery terminal. Take great care with your tools and wrenches in making sure you keep and eye on both ends of the tools at all times. This way you will not accidentally cross the posts of the battery. Take your time ,use proper safety technique and you'll do fine. The following is Pride Mobility's step by step for battery change out and is basically the same as I have sent . Can never have to much info but can always find yourself with not enough. Take Care

To replace the batteries:
1. Turn off the power to the controller.
2. Make sure that the power chair is in drive mode. See III. "Your Power Chair."

7. Slide the battery tray forward.
8. Unfasten the reusable strap around the front battery.
9. Disconnect the wiring harness from the front battery.
10. Remove the front battery.
11. Unfasten the reusable strap around the rear battery.
12. Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear battery.
13. Remove the rear battery.

Pride Jazzy Jet 3 Ultra Electric Wheelchair. Fuse keeps blowing I was given a Jet 3 Ultra for my mom .. I bought new batteries and installed them.. charged them over night ..

Question edited for clarity.

You have a dead short somewhere. You need some electrical knowledge and a digital multimeter for testing. Take all the covers off. Look for wiring that has rubbed through and touching or melted. Disconnect one of the motors and replace the fuse. If it still blows, reconnect that one and disconnect the other motor. If one motor doesn't blow and the other does, you know you have a faulty motor. If neither stop the issue, then you move up to the controller and look up there. With a meter you can check for shorts within the motors, as well as grounds.

Or just take it to a Service Centre and have it repaired and serviced properly.

Pride JET 3 Ultra power wheelchair. Problem: Batteries drain very fast after recommended charge. Things I have done: Replaced both batteries- twice; Replace On-board charger. Both items brand new. ...

check the motor brushes if they are 1/4 inch or less replace them. Next, after driving the chair for a while check the motor casing near the brake assemblies on the rear of each motor if the casing is hot then you have a sticking brake pad or pads and this can cause the excess battery drain. If you have sticking brake or brakes unfortunately the whole motor assembly will have to be changed Hope this helps

Charges but only holds a charge for about 1/2 hr running time. the manual i have says it has a external charger but mine is onboard. thanks ---- wayne

Wayne if you are getting a full charge and then only getting that little running time its time to replace the batteries. If Medicare paid for your chair then they will pay for most of the repair costs.. Contact the provider where you got your chair to ask about new batteries or you can get them yourself for about $200.00+ for both. You will need to get 2 U1 deep cycle batteries. Do not get unsealed or auto batteries for your chair get U1s Hope this helps

My mom has a Jet 3 Ultra and by reading other comments it sounds like we need a new battery, so I have 2 questions: 1 - where do we buy the battery 2 - how do we replace/install the battery - can we...

Did Medicare pay for Mom's chair? If they did then they will pay for 80% the repair to the chair. You can contact Repair Express @ 1-877-581-3733 or Roadrunner Mobility @ 1-800-467-2668 they are both excellent repair companies and will schedule a tech to pick up mom's chair leave a loaner and fix the chair for her. Now if Mom bought her chair then she will have to pay for the batteries and all other repairs needed (lets hope not). The chair needs 2 U1 sealed batteries and they can be purchased through the provider where she got the chair or at any good battery outlet like Interstate Battery. I would avoid Internet stores because of the shipping costs. Do not get them from Wal Mart or any other chain store because they do not sell sealed deep cycle batteries required for your chair. The batteries will cost you around $200.00 for both. The provider will probably charge you more. You have to unplug the joystick cable, remove the seat from the base and take the shroud off the base and there you will see the 2 batteries. Remove the wiring harness and remove the batteries reinstall the new batteries wiring them like the old ones, replace the shroud and the seat hook up the joystick cable push the on/off switch and pray that it comes on (lol). The old batteries can be recycled through any battery dealer in your area Hope this helps. If you have any questions you can reach me @ [email protected]

Have just purchased a Jet 2 power chair. The top speed is less than walking speed. Is this normal or is there some thing wrong?

Sandy Well could be. Hows that for an answer? It depends on the batteries and the speed setting. If the batteries are getting weak then they won't drive the chair as fast as new or good batteries. If the speed is not set to max then it won't go as fast as you like You can set the speed on the joystick. Now if the speed is set to max and you are still going slow and the batteries are new or good then it could be the program. Check with a provider(Person or Company that sells chairs) in your area and ask if they can check the programmed settings for you. If they have a PP1 programmer they should be able to easily check the settings and adjust them higher if they aren't already set there. Good Luck Hope this helps you

Isabel you could have battery problems or it could be a charger problem. you would need to contact your provider (where you got the chair and ask them to check it for you) Now Plug the charger in for a couple of hours and look at the light on the charger (it is located under the rear of the chair) if it is green then it indicates a full charge if you have no light then it could be that the batteries are getting the charge or the chharger is not operating A tech will haveto determine the problem for you. Sorry I couldn't give you a instant fix Hope this helps
