My scanner is an i40. I am using Capture Desktop software version 1.4.0.5. The computer can see the scanner OK and it registers with a "1" in the LED window. Problem came about after upgrading hard drive and migrating system using Seagate Application designed to keep all programs and OS in place. Pain free move apart from this little issue. There is no error number for this, just a box on screen with only one option "close".

I have not used CapturePerfect 3.0. Hope the scanner is just fine. Try count only mode to check if it is okay.
Uninstall Captureperfect. Run chkdsk/scandisk to check if OS is ok. Reinstall Captureperfect again and it should work.

quite possible the scanner motor finnaly gave out but lets look at other things first
try connecting to another usb port on comp before that completly take out all of the scanners drivers and programs this could be a simple file corrupt
i know you tried this but sometimes putting a new driver over old driver doesnt usually change the old drivers properties this is when you completly take out all drivers and software and start from scratch for this scanner

E6 means the scanner cover is open .
Please check for any open covers or any movable parts which is not closed.
