As soon as you turn on your laptop, hold down the ALT key and as you hold down that key keep pressing the F10 key and that key combination should bring you into the factory restore as long as the partition that contains it is still on the hard drive.

If you can still access your data in safe mode, attempt to backup your user files. Boot system from a bootable CD or USB key ,like Hiren's or UBCD4windows and use the utilities provided to scan and clean (may take several utilities and scans). Backup your data then do a complete format and system restore. Remember to update service packs and do the critical updates. Reinstall the applications then restore the backups of your data.

If you can get online then try downloading avast free antivirus , once you have done that then go into the protection settings and select boot scan then download the extra files , when completed simply select restart now . The program will then scan the entire hdd showing any infections as it goes along, from which you will be asked now and again to click yes or no to delete or keep

Jeric Hipolito wants more answers to this question hyjackers, why not go to acer.com click support and read your manual. it has chapter called recovery in fact all PCs do and have that chapter, if you can read, do so.
mostly what varies, is the hot key and what OS was on PC new, and now. unstated by everyone here, and makes any intelligent answer wrong but mine. may newer Acers have the magic 0 zero key power on hold zero key same time and bingo. no exact model # stated by any one so here is 4620 (not 4620z) ok>? newest OS support is w7 only
2007 PC , 12 years old today. eRecovery (is there cute name)
you lost the recover disks (y/n) or failed to make them day 1? y/n page 31 is clear no? now the magic recovery (partition method) covered on 65. and I quote, pdf page not actual book page ok?
I want to restore my computer to its original settings without
recovery CDs.
do the 3 steps first then the magic, D2D steps.
Alt+ F10 recovery,
this works only if. HDD not bad, we test it first, always or spend all day looking derp. or the PC use upgraded say for free with w10, few years back or the PC had new HDD installed. or the PC has upgrade from HDD to SSD nobody on earth knows the history of your PC , no one. may this old were upgraded and when that happen the license to your old OS is not gone , commuted or lost. Case in point' my PC Xray, had windows 7 home, (put there by me green box and all) I then upgraded to w10 for free. now the w7 license is forever gone, called COMMUTED digitally and banned by MS. see?
Why not get a shop to do this, and not walk the mine field of issues here.? bad hdd, change hdd, or upgraded OS, all are going to fail if you lost your DISKS (DVD set, or as we say not OS media install kits)

Not really. Put PC in safe mode then run Malwarebytes and a virus program that runs from the web and not on your drive.

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.

If you have any other issue with your Acer laptop/desktop/Notebook, feel free to get technical assistance at

SOURCE: I want to restore my dell laptop to factory settings

You need the system disks from the manufacturer, Dell to restore the computer to factory defaults. The system disks come in two forms, windows disks, and computer specific system disks. I am unsure of the disks that come with your notebook, but most likely they are system specific.
To restore the system, put the disk in the drive, restart the computer and after the POST (power on self test) push the F12 button. This will bring up the one-time boot screen allowing you to boot off of the CD. The next step is to format the computer and windows should begin to reinstall.
As for anti-virus, I use Antivira Anti-Virus Personal. It's free and can be downloaded from the link below.

Best of luck.

SOURCE: how to restore factory settings

Hello,
Restoring factory defaults will not fix this problem. You need to run software to clean out the virus or format your entire hard drive.
You can try running Spybot or Adware.
Good luck

You'll need restore disks or if there is a restore partition on the hard drive then you can restore it from there. It will be less problematic to get some anti virus software to rid the computer of a virus.

Selling my Toshiba laptop and I want to restore it to default/factory settings. When this was bought did not come with a disc.

When your Toshiba Satellite laptop goes on the fritz, there are several instances where the best solution is to delete everything and start over. If your system frequently crashes or you can't remove a specific virus, you may want to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. While the easiest way to restore the system is to use the operating system restore disc, it is possible to restore the system without it. Each Satellite laptop also includes a hard drive recovery utility that lets you restore the operating system without the restore disc.

1. Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

2. Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.

3. Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."

4. Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

5. Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.

6. Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya

My asus 1001ha is infected with viruses & wont do anything how do i restore to factory settings?

If it is a bad virus that won't let you do anything on the computer, follow the instructions on this link. If you can install programs on your computer, follow only steps 7 and 8 from the above link.

If you still want to restore it to factory settings, you will need the restoration CD/DVD that came with the laptop, put it in the drive and boot from it to start the restoration to factory settings. If you don't have the restoration disc, you will need a Windows installation disc to install a clean copy of Windows and wipe the HDD. Same process, put disc in and boot from it then follow the instructions for Windows installation (you will need the drivers disc though).
