What is wrong with a Westpointe dehumidifier when it stops removing water and displays P1? It will run this way for hours and kick in and work briefly once in a while on continuous.

Usually the P1 error indicates that dehumidifier needs to be defrosted. The unit has detected ice build-up on the condenser coils.

Unplug the dehumidifier for several hours. Then plug it back in. If the problem recurs, check that the fan that blows air across the coils is working properly. Make sure that the room is not colder than the operating range of the dehumidifier. If the problems continues to occur, you may have a refrigerant leak in the system. That will require a service call to repair the dehumidifier.

If the unit is under warranty, contact Westpointe. The manual I have for a Westpointe 65 PT dehumidifier, https://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/content/pdfs/136333-1.pdf, indicates the unit is covered through year 5 after purchase for a refrigerant system. For Warranty service, the contact point is Midea Consumer Service at 1-866-646-4332. If the unit is not under warranty, consider whether to replace the dehumidifier.

I hope this helps.

(I have seen a dehumidifier develop a refrigerant leak. It constantly froze before the leak was repaired and the refrigerant topped off.)

Dehumidifier Thermistor

there is NOT...

By your model number...
I bounce off of a lot of other (subsequent models (I presume))...

But your model does NOT resolve to any serious parts
USA domestic suppliers... not even good drawings!!

I tried appliancepartspros, easyapplianceparts, repairclinic, partsselect & searspartsdirect.com

Got spanked pretty good... Looked at related circuit boards... but none had any significant detail to determine a THERMISTER
FROM... Do not match

Time to get the ACTUAL NUMBERS OFF OF your thermistor...
and go to electronic houses... eBay, grainger... even RadioShack

In my humbled opinion...

I just replaced the two filters in my Sante Fe Compact dehumidifier, and the coil and filters froze up in a week. The temperature is above 70 degrees. What could be the cause?

Air restriction in the connected ductwork.
Dirty coils reducing air flow thru dehumidifier.
Low refrigerant charge.

Phone the factory at 1-800-533-7533 for help troubleshooting.

Where is the filter on this dehumidifier. Mod# ad75ust

To locate the filter: Shut unit off. Remove "bucket". You should find a "tab" at top of where bucket goes in middle front of unit. Pull down to remove tab of Filter. Clean thoroughly and dry Filter before re installation. Visually inspect the coils and condenser while filter is out ( a flashlight helps). If it looks slightly dusty or like covered in felt, then it would be wise to remove front and rear covers and give the coils and condenser a thorough cleaning.

My dehumidifer runs but no water is being pulled out

Might be a dirty coil and condenser.
I have had a AD75UST0 WHIRLPOOL Dehumidifier for several years. If it actually still runs, I would suggest you take off covers and give the coils a good thorough cleaning. Otherwise the units are not designed to be serviceable aka - "disposable small appliance". if you do dispose of it take it to a qualified recycle organization for Freon products. Shut unit off. Remove "bucket". You should find a "tab" at top of where bucket goes in middle front of unit. Pull down to remove tab of Filter. Clean thoroughly and dry Filter before re installation. Visually inspect the coils and condenser while filter is out ( a flashlight helps). How do I clean the dehumidifier?

A dehumidifier works just the way an air conditioner works but in a reverse manner. If you encounter a problem with your dehumidifier then it would be repaired the same way you would repair an air conditioner. As such a dehumidifier does not require much cleaning apart from changing the filter. When the filter and coils of the dehumidifier are choked with dirt, it may not pull out moisture from the air properly. The efficiency of the dehumidifier gets decreased and the only solution is, to clean it thoroughly. In order to assist you with the cleaning procedure of a dehumidifier, following are a few tips:
  1. Remove the water tank/container and clean it after draining the water. Depending on the usage the container must be cleaned regularly.

  2. Cleaning or changing the filter is also important for the main function of ensuring a healthy atmosphere is performed by the filter. Mix some bleach with warm soapy and clean the filter. It will help to get rid of the bacteria, molds and mildew.

  3. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the evaporative coil/hot coil. Scrub off the dirt using a brush but make sure that you don’t bend the fins while cleaning.

  4. Clean the condenser or the cold coil the same way. If the humidifier is working in a room where the temperature is below 60 degrees Fahrenheit then check the coils whether it is not icing up.

  5. See to it whether the fins are bent or not, if they are bent then straighten them out using a fin comb otherwise it might obstruct the effective working of the dehumidifier.

  6. And yes do not forget to clean the fan blades and other parts of the dehumidifier.

  7. Keeping in mind the humidity level of your room, sets the humidistat of the dehumidifier as keeping it too low or too high may only make the dehumidifier to run longer than necessary.

Also before you start with the work of cleaning the dehumidifier, make sure that it has been unplugged.

Coils freezing up, is this normal during operation?

Check fan speed. Also if coil (it's the evaporator) is clean.

The biggest reason is plugged filter...or te coil bhind the filter is plugged. Then you get into whether the compressor itself is running or not. Just because the fan is running does not mean the compressor is

Does a dehumidifier have a filter in it that needs to be changed? My husband has passed away and it has been running for years and I was just wondering if I was suppose to do any maintenance on it.

UNFORTUNATELY I BELIEVE THESE UNITS DO NOT HAVE A FILTER.. BUT YOU CAN VACUUM THE GRILLS FRONT AND BACK.. ALSO TAKE A BRIGHT LIGHT AND LOOK AT THE COILS THROUGH THE GRILLS AND SEE IF THEY ARE DUSTY.. IF SO TRY A SMALL SOFT BRUSH TO CLEAN THEM...
