I had all the AV in correctly and a game in. I turned on and the little red light came on but nothing on the screen and no sound
Nintendo 64 - Blank Screen Troubleshooting
Quick Tip:
If your system is connected using AV cables and you cannot see the game on your screen, it is likely all you need to find is the input select on your TV or VCR. Link here for help.
If the above steps do not resolve the problem you are experiencing, there may be a problem in one of your hookup cables and not your system. Try purchasing a new connection cable (how to buy replacement parts). You can also try borrowing the cable from a friend to see if it solves your problem before purchasing a new item.
If this does not resolve the problem you are experiencing with your system, your system may need to be replaced. For more information on what options are available, please click here.

I have the same problem and from what I've read elsewhere on the net, it seems to be easily amendable by one of two solutions.
- You can re-tune a channel on your TV (not one of the main ones) and it will find the frequency for your N64 to run on
- If you had a gamecube the yellow, red and white output cables that
came with that are (apparently) compatible with both the N64 and SNES
and that way you wont have to tune your TV.
Unfortunately for me, I did not have a GC and my TV will not re-tune
due to the button on the controller not working! Good luck.

Make sure that the game you are trying to play is free of dust and other obstructions. I know that the label on the back of the game says that you should never blow on the edge connector, but it doesn't harm the game. (Trust me I've been cleaning the connectors for years now, and it hasn't been damaged. After you throughly rid the game of dust, do the same with the edge connector on the N64. Simply hold the opening open and blow the dust out. This should work. Please give feedback!! Hope this helps!!

Ok well, I don't guarantee this will work but its worth giving a shot. You know the controls like V1 2,3,4,and 5? That might be a clue because all that stuff works the stuff that's plugged into the back of the TV. They have extra cable outlets or whatever you'd like to call them in the back of the TV. So plug the n64 into the back of the TV. Then it should work someway. You might be able to figure out it from there if it still doesn't work. So don't plug it into the cable box or VCR anymore. Hope that helps.
Let me know if it works after that.
P.S. I have a n64 too, and I just got a new HDTV also. I tried to see if my n64 works on it but it doesn't so I think I might do the samething that I was just explaining
