SOURCE: Presser foot lever stuck

You lever doesn't work because the presser foot Bar is seized from lack of use.Open the side of the machine to access the bar. Put a mixture of water and ammonia ( about 80%water 20% ammonia) on the top and bottom of the bar. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then try to move the presser foot Up by lifting the foot with a screw driver. Do not pry so hard you break something. It should get progressively easy the more times you do this. Put some sewing machine oil on the top and bottom of the shaft and it should be good to go.

SOURCE: presser foot will not go all the way down

There might be something stuck in there that is stopping it from pushing all the way down.

Make sure that your needle is in the highest position, turn your handwheel towards you, not away from or else you will mess up the timing

SOURCE: I removed the presser foot

I just looked at your free manual on the www.singerco.com site and it looks a little complicated to do, Do you think that maybe downloading the manual and enlarging the diagrams on pages 10 & 11 may help you? If not, call Singer customer service, at 1-800-4singer and ask for some advice. Good luck

Testimonial: "This wasn't really helpful. I had already followed the instructions in the manual, but wasn't able to do the last step listed."

The lever for the presser foot on my Kenmore 158.441 sewing machine is locked in the down position

If the lever for the presser foot on your Kenmore 158.441 sewing machine is locked in the down position, there could be a few different issues causing the problem. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the presser foot: Make sure the presser foot is properly installed and aligned on the machine. If the presser foot is not properly installed or aligned, it can cause the lever to become stuck in the down position.
  2. Check the presser foot lever: Inspect the presser foot lever for any visible damage or looseness. Make sure the lever is not bent or broken and that it is properly aligned and connected to the machine.
  3. Check the threading: Make sure the machine is properly threaded. If the thread is not correctly aligned or tensioned, it can cause the presser foot lever to become stuck in the down position.
  4. Check for any other visible issues: Inspect the machine and its components for any visible issues that may be causing the presser foot lever to become stuck in the down position. This can include debris or foreign objects that may have gotten stuck in the machine, or damage to the machine or its components.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and the problem persists, it may be necessary to have the machine serviced by a professional. A technician will be able to diagnose the problem and determine the necessary repairs.

Presser foot lever Singer promise 1408

It is unlikely that you needed to go very far with the tear down. You are brave. Put it back together and take it in for servicing.

Why is my presser foot lever loose?
The presser foot lever is very loose and not moving the bar (foot lever). There is probably either an adjustment not set correctly or a screw that needs adjusting or replacing.

When i release the leg lever to let down the presser foot ,the foot wont release all the way and now it wont stitch

Mine does this too sometimes. Lift up the head and look in the middle of the oil pan. The knee controller runs through there. Make sure the black knob is not stuck. Hit the knee thing a couple of times to make sure it is not stuck. It should move freely up and down. That may fix the problem. If not, look st the small post to the left and behind the oil intake. Move the manual presserfoot lever on the machine to see it move. It will be stiff, but it should still lift a little. Usually jigging these two parts will fix the problem. Good luck..

Does the presser foot lift up when you use the lever? Can you open the face cover plate and see the presser foot lever to see if it is connected and functional or has it become disconnected?

I have a 9960 singer machine and am trying to use the buttonhole presser foot for the first time and I can not get it to sew T

the buttonhole foot snaps on to the presser bar, there's a little lever at the back of the presser bar that releases the foot, then put the buttonhole foot down on the needle plate & use the presser foot lifter (number 11) to lower the presser bar down onto the buttonhole foot & you'll hear a click sound when it snaps on & make sure to use the buttonhole lever(number 31) because the machine won't sew a buttonhole unless that lever is pulled down.

Presser foot lever won't lower the foot

This may be a lubrication problem on the presser foot shaft. Try freeing up with penetrating oil or Triflow. After letting set for an hour lower the presser foot and pull down on the ankle. If that does not work you need to open the machine and loosen the clamp screw on the presser foot shaft. Then try to twist the shaft to loosen it up.
