The usual method is to use a pencil eraser on the contacts on the lens and the camera. Be careful not to get the bits in the lens or camera

When i on my Canon EOS 450D camera it says error 99 turn off and on the camera or re install the battery how can fix this problem

The error 99 code has different sources, to identify it do this:

Remove the Lens, and try shooting at various speed high (1/1000 or more) then at more normal ones 1/15, 1/50 etc.
If you see the error 99 then contact canon this is a problem wit the camera.
In this case contact Canon directly.

If you still don' have the error message, then put back the lens and try shooting at different apertures (for a lens the error 99 correspond with an aperture problem)
try every aperture. If the problem appears then, clean the lens contacts both on the camera and on the lens.

If the problem is still there, contact the lens brand, you certainly have a blocked or sticky aperture.

Hope this helps.

I am getting error 1 i have cleaned the contacts i take 1 or 2 shots and the error 1 shows again my other lens works fine

It will be good if you can use a good quality contact cleaner in these contacts to dry wipe off .check with the other lens youhave for the contact postions. If there is any change or distortions.
If not the sensor electronics within the unit can be faulty.
Need to take help from Canon as it is a very delicate issue.

I have a Canon EOS, 1000D which I purchased in Feb 09. I have an error message coming up on the screen everytime I take a shot (which doesn't record). The error is a Err 99, "Shooting is not possible. Turn...

I did some digging and found that this error is most often a lens communication error. Are you, by chance using a non-Canon lens?

Try the following:

1. Remove the lens and take a picture without any lens on. If you get an ERR 99, then it is a camera issue and you will need to contact Canon for further troubleshooting or repair (ie. not the lens).
2. If you do not get the error with the lens off, try it with a Canon lens or any other lens. If no error, it is a problem with the original lens.
3. If the error occurs on both lenses, clean the lens contacts both on the lens and the camera (refer to your manual).

Hope this helps.

I have a canon eos digital camera. It has error 99 code on it when I try to take a picture

Error 99 can be caused by poor communication between the camera and the lens. Often it can be resolved by doing one of these following fixes:

1) Turn the camera off, remove the lens, replace the lens, turn the camera on.

2) If that doesn't work, turn the camera off and remove the lens. Use a clean pencil eraser to clean the electrical contacts between the lens and the camera body. Hold the lens or camera body "upside down" so that the contacts are facing down as you rub them with the eraser so that any eraser debris falls onto the table rather than falling into your camera or lens. Replace the lens.

If neither of these fix your problem you will need to send the camera and lens in to Canon for repair.

Error 99 Canon 30D

I also had this problem.
Try to remove the battery for more than 1 minute.
Also try to remove the CF-Card for more than 1 minute.
For me this only resolved the problem for 5-10 pictures.
Then I had to remove battery and CF-Card again.
The only real solution for this problem is to give the lens to repair.
Because this problem is caused by a wrong adjustment of the lens aperture.

Canon digital rebel xt :error 1 message

I agree with dovi. I actually emailed canon and here is what they said and how to do it; Thank you for your inquiry regarding your digital SLRs. We value you asa Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you, and I'm sorry to hear that you're running into the "error 1" message. From what you mentioned, it sounds like the lens might be having problems communicating with your cameras. One thing you could try is toclean the contact points on your lens and your camera. If you have not done this yet you can do so by turning the camera off, removing the lens, then brushing those copper points on both the lens and the camera body with something like a clean eraser. Should problems continue, I would suggest that you go to a local camera shop and try a different lens. That way you can determine whether the problem is due to the lens or to your cameras. I hope this is helpful Jason
