Need help with wiring thermostat

I am installing a Honeywell RTH230B Programmable thermostat, but I am unsure of which wires to connect to Rh and Rc. I have W, Y, and G hooked up. I still have red, orange, and blue wires coming from the wall. The installation guide states that the red jumper wire must be removed in 5-wire installations. So, which color wire goes in Rh and which goes in Rc?

First do you have a heat pump unit or standard a/c? standard a/c connections at the thermostat go like this red wire to rh-rc which is the 24v power and you don't have to remove the jumper.white goes to w which is the heating wire yellow goes to y which is the cooling wire green goes to g which is the fan wire and blue goes to c which is the common wire. so if your stat has rc- rh ywgc you should be set if the wires on the furnace correspond with the same alpha designation.orange may be used if u have a heat pump unit otherwise it may just be a spare you cap off and leave behind the subplate.

the colors of old system are for heat pump.if you have a heat pump you need heat pump thurmostat and colrs will make more sense.if not, then you need to go into furnace to see what colors go where.yellow is cool, goes to compressor contactor, usually another wire going from furnace to outside unit.green is fan relay rh is heat call rc is cool call

Honeywell RTH230B cooling problems...

I printed out the instructions for your thermostat. It looks like you should have the following.

There should be jumper wire between Rh & Rc

Red wire to Rh or Rc whichever is easier since there is a jumper. This is the hot wire and all the thermostat does is connect to route it to the components needed for heating or cooling.

Blue wire, tape it up and don't use it. There is no spot on this thermostat for it. It is only used on thermostats that are powered by the transformer.

White wire to W. Powers the heat relay

Yellow wire to Y. Powers the cooling contactor

Green wire to G. Powers the indoor fan relay

There is a black jumper on the back of the face plate. Look at section 2.4 Setting J2 Jumper in the installation instructions. Make sure you have it in the right position for what you have. If you don't have them just google them.

Hope this helps.

Installing thermostat - extra wire?

you have to go down to your furnace and follow the thermostat wire ...it connects to a terminal strip or fan centre...the color doesn;t really matter...installers mix and match all the time....look at the furnace wiring and mark it down...Red on "R"...Green on "Y" whatever it is...and connect it accordingly upstairs...if you only have 4 thermostat wires downstairs you will need a jumper wire between RH and RC...if you have 5 wires you will see 2 wires on "R" at the furnace.,...and connect either to RH and RC at the thermostat

Do you have an Rh and Rc terminal on t'stat and do you have 4 wires coming into it?
If you do then you need to put a jumper wire from Rh toRc.
