The fault is known technically 'one color predominant screen' There are many reasons for this. Some loose solder terminals or a component damage at the video output card, can cause this problem. some of it is surely user repairable ones, provided, the user should have knowledge in electronics. Definitely, there is some keypad failure. There is a continuous contact anyone of the key. Since key is contiunuosly giving command to the processor Remote function is automatically cutoff. My simle Tips to find out key failure. Good key give "Tick" sound when you press the key softly. The sound is very very low, you have to observe carefully. Otherwise blindly change all the front panel key. Cost is very very low. When the keypad problem is solved, remote will function automatically.

This may be a fault with the firmware (internal software for the uPC), or it may be a failure in the circuit area or chip that generates the fonts and characters for the menu display.
You will have to send the set for factory level service if this is the case. If you give the set to an independent service center, they may have to send the set out on your behalf.
I would be careful to not invest too much money in to servicing a TV of this generation.

Hi Unykue,
I am an electronics technician who just happened have been given the same set as you because it was giving the previous owner the same problem. Since I am confident in my trade, I took the set and diagnosed noise in the remote receivers input to the cpu.
What this means is that a capacitor( or something) wasn't working properly and was either not filtering the noise out or it was introducing noise into the data stream that controls the TV through your remote control.
My fix was to essentially cut out the entire remote control input to the TV. Since I have a directtv box to give me remote control, I don't care if the TV's remote works anyway.
The way I did this was to open up the unit and find the front I/O board were the buttons meet the switches for power, chaennel, volume, etc. On that board there is a plug with white wires and one black wire. The two wires to cut are the one next to the black wire and the one all the way at the other end of the black wire. These two wires are easy to splice back if you do not like the results of this procedure so that there is really no risk of damaging your set. If you wish to verify the proper wires to cut, they are the two wires that come from the IR receiver's side of the board YET DO NOT GO TO THE OTHER SIDE WITH THE BUTTONS! There is one wire that does indeed go to both sides.
This may not be a perfect solution but it is free. I hope that this will help someone out there.

SOURCE: My remote will not work
1# First unplug tv,unhook ant.let set overnight.2# Reconect ant.Plug back in.turn tv on with button on tv.let tv run trew all its modes for 5 to 6 hrs.Don`t push any buttons!!!!! It has to reset everything.then try remote, when it starts to work, set new pin code.use your instruction book,to set all blocks to N,,Clear all favorite channels + erase channels in tv 's memory if there in there yet, takes a lot of time.it will keep resetting, remote won't work.let it run awhile. then push exit, hold 5 to 10 seconds remote will eventually come back, check your settings reset them, be sure menu is set to STOP, it may start running threw all its modes again, let run couple hrs, then push exit 5 to 10 seconds to get your remote back.keep trying this. when you think the tv is working right, turn it off for 10 seconds then back on. If it starts resetting, let it run an hr,then push exit again to get your remote back,it has to reset everything, keep trying, took me 3DAYS to get it right!!!!!!!!! the only thing I don't have working is the pic size button,Don't need that anyway. GOOD LUCK.
