SOURCE: I saw your response to a question about the Toshiba 32A33 TV ...

Definitely, there is some keypad failure. There is a continuous contact anyone of the key. Since key is contiunuosly giving command to the processor Remote function is automatically cutoff. My simle Tips to find out key failure. Good key give "Tick" sound when you press the key softly. The sound is very very low, you have to observe carefully. Otherwise blindly change all the front panel key. Cost is very very low. When the keypad problem is solved, remote will function automatically.

This may be a fault with the firmware (internal software for the uPC), or it may be a failure in the circuit area or chip that generates the fonts and characters for the menu display.

You will have to send the set for factory level service if this is the case. If you give the set to an independent service center, they may have to send the set out on your behalf.

I would be careful to not invest too much money in to servicing a TV of this generation.

SOURCE: OLDER MODEL RCA HOME THEATER PICTURE AND PICTURE

Hi Unykue,

I am an electronics technician who just happened have been given the same set as you because it was giving the previous owner the same problem. Since I am confident in my trade, I took the set and diagnosed noise in the remote receivers input to the cpu.

What this means is that a capacitor( or something) wasn't working properly and was either not filtering the noise out or it was introducing noise into the data stream that controls the TV through your remote control.

My fix was to essentially cut out the entire remote control input to the TV. Since I have a directtv box to give me remote control, I don't care if the TV's remote works anyway.

The way I did this was to open up the unit and find the front I/O board were the buttons meet the switches for power, chaennel, volume, etc. On that board there is a plug with white wires and one black wire. The two wires to cut are the one next to the black wire and the one all the way at the other end of the black wire. These two wires are easy to splice back if you do not like the results of this procedure so that there is really no risk of damaging your set. If you wish to verify the proper wires to cut, they are the two wires that come from the IR receiver's side of the board YET DO NOT GO TO THE OTHER SIDE WITH THE BUTTONS! There is one wire that does indeed go to both sides.

This may not be a perfect solution but it is free. I hope that this will help someone out there.

SOURCE: My remote will not work

1# First unplug tv,unhook ant.let set overnight.2# Reconect ant.Plug back in.turn tv on with button on tv.let tv run trew all its modes for 5 to 6 hrs.Don`t push any buttons!!!!! It has to reset everything.then try remote, when it starts to work, set new pin code.use your instruction book,to set all blocks to N,,Clear all favorite channels + erase channels in tv 's memory if there in there yet, takes a lot of time.it will keep resetting, remote won't work.let it run awhile. then push exit, hold 5 to 10 seconds remote will eventually come back, check your settings reset them, be sure menu is set to STOP, it may start running threw all its modes again, let run couple hrs, then push exit 5 to 10 seconds to get your remote back.keep trying this. when you think the tv is working right, turn it off for 10 seconds then back on. If it starts resetting, let it run an hr,then push exit again to get your remote back,it has to reset everything, keep trying, took me 3DAYS to get it right!!!!!!!!! the only thing I don't have working is the pic size button,Don't need that anyway. GOOD LUCK.

TV Sharp LC-40LE830U. My front panel ys disabled and my remote control don't work. I can power on/off only. How can I enable my front panel without use remote control? or reset factory settings?

If both your front panel and remote control are disabled, the best option would be to perform a factory reset to restore the TV to its original settings.
To reset the Sharp LC-40LE830U to factory settings:
  1. Unplug the TV from the power outlet and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  2. Press and hold the power button on the TV for 5 seconds while the TV is still unplugged.
  3. Plug the TV back in and turn it on using the power button on the TV itself.
  4. Once the TV is turned on, press and hold the "input" and "volume down" buttons on the TV simultaneously for 5 seconds.
  5. The TV will then enter the service mode menu.
  6. Press the "menu" button on the remote control to navigate through the menu and select "option."
  7. Select "factory reset" from the options menu and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.
Note: The factory reset will erase all custom settings, including parental controls, picture, and audio settings.

My 62 in projection Toshiba tv, has not picture or sound, what can it possibly be? Please help.

please do the following. God bless you
  • Reset component settings. Usually, the problems you encounter with a projection TV may be resolved through the resetting to its factory settings. If you experience inaccuracies in the color, reset the television's PerfectTint/PerfectColor capabilities. Simply press the Menu tab and then highlight "Perfect Color" using your right key arrow. After this, press "Enter" and then "Reset" in order to reset to factory settings. If you have audio / video problems (VCR or DVD player), simply press "Menu" and highlight the "Reset" option.
Reset television controls. In case you cannot fix your TV via its component settings, there are other ways of resetting. Just select "Menu", key in "1, 2, 3", and then press "Enter." In doing this, the TV's manufacturer's specifications will all be restored. If your TV's power system does not function, you should perform a complete system reset. You can do this by clicking on Reset System button located at the TV's control panel. Your television will be turned off and then a green light (LED) will quickly flash for approximately one minute. Once the light has stopped flashing, your TV should immediately turn on.

The picture started to get blurry, after being turned on for 10 minutes would clear up, now just stays blurry and almost no picture at all.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To reset the picture you’ll need to reset all the Video menu options to their original factory setting for which you’ll need to follow this step-by-step procedure---

Press the Menu button and then use up or down arrow button to select the Video menu. Now press the right arrow button and then use up or down arrow button to select Video Reset then press the right arrow button to reset the Video menu options to original values.

If still the problem persists, then you’ll need to check for local interference such as an electrical appliance or power tool and also check the antenna. If required change the direction of the antenna.

To resolve the issue of Blurry Screen, first check whether all the cables from your dish network are fine and connected firmly. If yes then you'll need to pull off the front of the TV, behind the speaker grill there would be a panel. Remove the panel and check for a black box hanging over there. It has 6 controls on it, 3 are marked as focus and 3 as screen. You'll need to adjust the screen. If you turn these too high you can damage a tube. So we are doing real small adjustments. Turn the color off on the TV and adjust the red, blue & green controls up till you get a fine picture. Also adjust the focus until you get a clear picture.

And, if it doesn't resolve your issue then it is an intermittent blue picture tube, a bad blue driver transistor on the CRT board, a bad connection on the blue CRT board, or a problem in the RGB coming from the video jungle IC. A set this age, most likely will run about 300-500 bucks to have this problem fixed, unless it is the picture tube.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Digital channels have stopped working, only blue screen!

Try resetting the TV:

  1. Switch on TV and switch to any analogue channel.
  2. On the TV: Press and hold the MENU button.
  3. Menu screen will appear on the display.
  4. Do not release the MENU until the menu screen disappears.
  5. TV will go blank for about 60 seconds and then display initial set up screen.
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to re-tune the TV.
If this does not work then the problem is likely to be a loose ribbon cable or main small signals board inside the TV.

Mono setting?

What channel is it and when they tune in that channel, is the picture nice and clear or is it grainy and snowy before the screen goes blue? On some sets, if the signal is weak, the picture will go blue. This is called Blue Screen and is there so you do not see very poor, grainy and snowy pictures. Some sets will have an option in the menu to turn the blue screen off.
