Top loading maytag washer leaking water during wash cycle

How do I remove the front panel of a top loading maytag washer?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

    Post to cmarcum,

You can disconnect the right lid lock and leave disconnected, I have had mine removed for the past six months. I feel you have a problem with the left lid lock. You should post your issue as a new problem not a solution to this problem post. I will place suggestions for trouble shooting and working toward a fix for your OD error code on your new problem post. I too have been confused a bit by the new forum format

A little mor info if its a FAV6800AW/FVA9800AW

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
Raise the top of the machine. Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. See page 33 of the SM for putty knife insertion point.

5/16 nut driver or 5/16 ¼ socket on an extension to remove front panel see page 41 of the SM

Hi, There are two spring clips located in the gap between the top and front panel. They are the edges.
If the pump and hoses aare ok, fill the washer with water and look up toward the center of the tub abd transmission area. It migth have a seal going bad.

I hope this helps.

My maytag washer stoped during the cycle with 8

You may have blown the internal fuse located in the lid switch. Could be you over loaded the washer and blew the fuse.
Unplug the washer and remove the four screws holding the control panel front in place. Two screws on top and two screws under control panel.
Remove the control panel and tilt forward.
Locate the lid switch assemble and remove glass fuse and inspect.
Door switch assembly should be replaced. When you order the proper fuse it should come with the door switch assembly.
Replace assembly. Reinstall the front control panel and four screws.
Plug machine in and test.

Leaks during wash cycle. need to get cover off without destroying the washing machine. looks like new now!

at the bottom of the front panel are 2 screws you need to remove ( easier to tip machine back a little to get to screws. then pull the bottom of the panel toward you. as it swings out, the top of the front panel will release. you should be able to find your leak from there. shane
