Your questions,what does it mean?
If you use PA50SD,of course you don't need floppy emulator.
If you use PA50 with floppy emulator, you need to format the flashdisk with special softwares (SFD 1.23 etc) that usually included when you buy the emulator.

Floppy emulator can't read flashdisk untill it formatted.
Flashdisk MUST BE format by special softwares.
Install the softwares on the PC/notebook.
No matter how much flashdisk capacity, floppy emulator will continue to read as one 1.44MB floppy.
Through special softwares formater, we can determine how many floppy that we will create. Lets say,100 floppy (or more),softwares will format the floppy 1.44 100 times on the flashdisk.
So we have 100 pieces 1.44MB floppy inside flashdisk. If one floppy can store about 30 MIDI songs, then it means that we already have 3000 songs in flashdisk.
If you format for 100 floppy, the total capacity of about 144MB.
So,flashdisk with a 2GB capacity, is more than enough to store songs.
To change from one floppy to enother, just press bank number at floppy emulator panel.
I hope this helps.
Regards.
The floppy drives of this age often required strapping to select the unit number and other setups. Newer drives were not compatible. Make sure the drive selected light remains on when power is on. If not, check the drive selections jumpers for the drive.
It is VERY easy to not have gotten the cables back and seated completely for the floppy disk. ALSO it is very easy to damage the ribbon cables on floppy drives by pulling at the edges of the ribbon to pull connectors off. One MUST distrbute the force all across the cable as it is easy o damage the connections in the connector for the wires near the edge. It is also easy to damage the pins on floppy drive connectors. You will need to reopen the unit and check the cables INCLUDING the little power cable to the drive. If you have damaged the ribbon cable you can either replace it or possibly get another connector and put it on the cable right next to the one with the problem and crimp it in a vise... These are an insulation displacement type so you need to get it on straight and ALSO verify the index is the right direction before crimping. For your problem think cables, cables, cables...
Often these drives are continuosly selected by the controller and rotate even without a disk.
These USUALLY use the old 720K disks which are almost impossible to find. The common 3.5 1.44Mb floppies often will not work in these units.
You can SOMETIMES use the 1.44Mb disks by covering the second corner hole AND degaussing the disk with a tape eraser and then reformating the disk in the Clavinova.
The pre-formatted 1.44Mb disks without degaussing SOMETIMES leaves artifacts between the tracks used by the 720K disks that causes problems.
This sounds like it MIGHT be a floppy drive problem rather than a full memory... REMEMBER to ONLY try recording a file no bigger than what the floppy will hold which is 720Kb.
NOTE: The disks used in this are not the COMMON 3.5 inch floppies, but the older 2DD 720K floppies. They have only one hole on corners where the new 1.44 Mb ones have two holes.
To USE the 1.44 Mb flopies do this: Use an opaque tape to cover the hole that does NOT have the write protect slider. THEN most omportantly DEGAUSS the disk with a degausser. THEN Reformat the disk in the CVP 65.
The pre-formatted 1.44 disk when formated at the 720Kb used by the CVP 65 will have ARTIFACTS between tracks since the higher density also have half the track spacing and the formatting doesn't always clean enough width leaving artifacts between the tracks when formatted as 720Kb These ARTIFACTS can cause trouble.
The 720Kb disks are ESSENTIALLY unavailable anymore.
