Broken door strike - Maytag 24 in. MDBH950AWS Built-in Dishwasher

The electric door lock might very well be defective. Or, commonly, a part of the mechanism has broken internally and jammed the movement. I've also seen that the electromagnetic coil develops a short and won't hold. Also, check the *strike* which is the corresponding part mounted on the door. If it is broken, the lock can't latch it properly--this can happen if the door has been leaned on and is out of alignment--all it takes is one good slam, off center, and the strike can break or be bent. Also, if off center, the strike can slam into the wrong area of the catch, damaging the moving parts in the lock. The strike is easy to replace--the lock mechanism, however, ISN'T! If the lock mech is damaged, I urge you to call for service!

Usually this is caused by the door being bent, the hinges being bent, or a worn out door strike/catch not holding the door tightly closed. Lol, got kids?? Mommy's little helpers love to lean on the doors(the ones that open/close vertically). Also, slamming the dryer door can break the little plastic arm attached to the door switch--I see MANY switches with the arms broken in-half or the strikes/catches damaged from slamming. Usually a relatively simple repair to replace the strike/catch.

Does the door strike seem to be broken and is that what you see inside of the latch asm.? if no the strike is ok i suspect the latch itself has broken apart and your seeing a internal part of it through the opening where the strike fits into, in which case the latch/lock assambly would need to be replaced.

The part numbers are

There is a test chart in the troubleshooting section you can follow. Test#7 on page 62 talks about the door latch/lock, it asks if your door strike is broken, I've seen a few break before myself.

If you replaced the door latch assembly and its still doing it, and the door strike isn't broken then it said your control board is the culprit.

Hi- First I would try unplugging it for a minute and seeing if that will reset the door latch. It is possible that the door latch is broken and is blocking the strike from going in (is the strike broken on the door?). It is also possible that the controller is activating the door latch constantly for some reason. Best to call a Tech out to take a look at it. Good luck.

There is 2 parts to your door latch. The first is the latch itself, the second is called the " strike" The strike may be out of alignment or the latch is bent or broken, and will have to be replaced.

IF YOU HAVE REPLACED THE DOOR LOCK BE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO LOOSE CONNECTIONS OR BURNED WIRES THAT GO TO THE SWITCH. IF THESE ARE OKAY YOUR COULD POSSIBLY HAVE A BROKEN DOOR STRIKE LOCATED ON THE DOOR ITSELF IF THIS IS BROKEN IT WILL NOT ACTIVATE THE SWITCH. I CAN GET THE DOOR STRIKE PART NUMBER, BUT I WOULD REQUIRE A MODEL NUMBER. THE LAST POSSIBLE SOLUTION IS THAT YOUR CONTROL BOARD IS FAULTY THEREFORE NOT ALLOWING IT TO SEND THE PROPER AMPERAGE YOU ACTIVATE THE LOCKING MECHANISM.HOPE THIS HELPS
