SONY KP-57HW40 I purchased this TV about 3 years ago, only use it occasional in our loft.  About a month ago it stopped working properly.  When I turn on the TV it begins to loose the picture after a few minutes.  Then after it fades out completely theres only a blue screen.  Now got a few technicians to come out and take a look at it, but they were no help!  Frustrated I decided to take a look at it myself.  I opened the back of TV and when I began to inspect it I noticed that when I turn the TV on all the lights were on blue, green, red with the picture projecting, then all of a sudden the green light, then the red light would fade off leaving a picture projecting from the blue light, then all of a sudden the picture from the blue light would fade and the blue light would stay on. Does anyone know what would be wrong?  Any idea of what it would be to fix?  Is it worth it?  Please help!

I called the Sony Customer service @ 1800-222-7669 ( they were located in the Phillipines !)and was informed that they have no warnings on file (about the RGB guns) therefore was not a chronic problem. This differs from what servicemen report that I have spoken to. I've had the three guns go out within a period of 14 months, out of warranty, and Sony refused to do anything about it. Oh!, they did say that I should have an Authorized Sony repair agency look at and define the problem-But I'd still have to pay the service tab anyway, which will run about 350.00 each; installed and aligned at an independant service shop.

Try and argue with someone who speaks English, but does not understand the concept of understanding it. I will have it repaired, because it is a good TV with many features.

I purchased my TV about 6 years ago. Within the first 6 months, I had the issue of fading colors. Luckily it was under warranty and they sent out a tech to replace all three tubes. About 6 months ago, when I did not renew my extended warranty, I begin to experience fading pictures.

Not willing to part with $700 to repair it, I am left to watch TV in 15-20 minutes spurts, until I built enough courage to try and fix it myself.

You are experiencing one or more of three things
1.the crt itself is damaged
2. the vertical ic on blue crt board is bad
3. the focus block is bad
if you hire a sony authorized technician they should be well aware of this problem.

Dull colors

Remove the back panel and the inside panel which slides out on a track so you can get to the 3 crt lenses. Clean the dust off of the lenses with a soft lint free cloth, such as a camera lens cloth. You should be able to find one at a camera store or Radio Shack. Clean with a safe glass cleaner NOT WINDEX. Be sure not to scratch the lenses.

ITS PROBABLY THE RED PICTURE TUB (CRT). IT LOOKS EASY TO INSTALL, BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE SCREEN ONCE IT IS INSTALLED. THE PART IS $3OO. TRY TO FIND SOMEONE TO INSTALL IT FOR $150 OR LESS. HERE IS A WEBSITE TO HELP YOU MAKE ADJUSTMENT IN THE FUTURE ON YOU OWN.
