Will surge as much as 1000 RPM's when in Neutral and pressing gas to between 3000 and 4000 RPM's. Stalls at a stop inermittantly. When car is accellerating the fuel connection is fine. When you attempt to maintain a speed (not accelerating or decellerating) the engine shudders and shakes. 1999 pontiac grand am gt 3400 cc turbo mpfi runs a little ruff, engine surges at 3800 rpms. just started no loose connections or vaccum lines. car pulls unitl 3800 rpm mark and then just surges. Thought it could be fule pump?
it is your idler pulley. get it from dealer comes with bracket, just use pulley off bracket. take your belt off and your idler pulley is lower right hand side(facing your engine). 15mm bolt, replace pulley and reinstall your belt. it;s a common problem on trailblazers

Hi,
Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".
Initially, what comes to mind is probable faulty universal joints (U-joint), actually two of them and/or missing retainer clips. They would be coupling the transmission to the propeller shaft and then to the differential. The power train is nearly perfectly balance system and any missing needle bearing on any of the four ends of the U-joint wold cause a slight wobble on a particular speed. To check, the vehicle must be lifted and the propeller shaft yanked. There must be no noticeable play or slack.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

No! Don't even try it!!!! The wiring harnesses and the computers are all different! Besides, the pushrod motor is vastly inferior in longevity. Change the oil and the SOCH motor will last a LONG time... the pushrod motor will wear out after about 120,000 miles. Seen enough of them to know!

No check engine light? Have to guess, you might need to replace the plug wires, it could be a clogged fuel filter/regulator, or possibly the fuel pump.
