Lionel alaska railroad engine 71

I have good voltage on my test track on the workbench ... I am ready to disassemble the engine to see if I can find the problem but thought I'd check with others before hand. Thanks for any help. I'm more familiar with the Postwar and Prewar emgines. If thsi were mine, I would first remove the shell, and see if the motor spins freely. there could be something (like a piece of carpet) stuck in the gears, or side rods. If the "transmission" is all free, you need to check the wiring for a cold solder joint, where, it looks like it is connected, but a small crack is visible. If this one has circuit boards, good luck. The only way to debug this is to send it back to Lionel. The repair cost could possibly be more than just buying another one on ebay. Good luck and keep me in the loop.
