Sony RDR-GX355 child afety lock location will not open

Turn off recorder. Hold the on/off button on the dvd player for a few seconds. until "CHILD LOCK" disappears. The child lock is now disengaged...Check page 37 in the manual (I found it online -- same thing happened to my player -- I just freed it)

    DVD must be stuck in it. And it needs mechanical adjustment. Contact any expert nearby to you.

SOURCE: Switched to command mode DVD1(I know...) book: you will be unable to operate this recorder. That's all they wrote. Can't undo. Nothing works-screen freeze. HELP???

To solve the problem you need to change the command code on the remote control to 1. Point the remote to the unit, and press 1 on the remote.

I had the same problem also.

SOURCE: I cant get my Sony RDR-GX355 to record, I only get

A blank DVD means the write laser is not working correctly.
A quick check: write on a disc that has something you don't want ALREADY ON IT. If the disc comes out blank, the write laser is on but not focused. If the disk still works, the write laser is not on or very weak. Either way, it likely means a new laser assembly + alignment.
