Your bike could have a number of causes for your over-heating. You are the eyes and ears of this matter. The more you can share, the better I can help. How is the maintenance on your bike? Is your bike stock? The bike is liquid cooled, have you checked the coolant reservoir? I would suspect a problem with the air/fuel ratio or cooling system. Please let me know what you find, good luck.

What type of oil should I use for my used 1994 yamaha virago

Your machine came from Yamaha with 20w-40 JASO MA motorcycle oil. Use any oil that has the JASO MA rating on the label. 10W-40 for cooler climate and 20W-50 for warmer climates. Do not use any oil that says "Energy Conserving" on the label, they can shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Synthetic oils will help your engine run cooler and shift easier. An inexpensive full synthetic oil that is JASO MA rated and available every where is Shell Rotella T 15W-40 synthetic oil (about $23 a gallon).

2nd service V star 1300 4000 miles can or should i use castrol gtx oil ?or is it best to use the yamaha brand ?

Use motorcycle oil. It should have the JASO MA rating on the bottle . Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label , it will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears(wrong additives). Use 10w-40 for colder climates and 20w-50 for warm climates/touring. Synthetics will help your bike run cooler and shift easier. Amsoil and Mobile 1 make good motorcycle oil. Yamaha full synthetic (all there oil) is kind of expensive. Suzuki has a 15w-50 full synthetic that is reasonable ($7 a quart last time I got it)

Can I use Castrol 20W-50 engine oil in 2004 Range Rover HSE 4.4,ran for 102300 mile, instead of Castrol Edge 20w-40 where ambint temp range is 32-132 F

I think you should wait until you know the ambient temp will not go below about 50. If you've ever seen a 20w50 at or near freezing temperatures, it is as thick as honey. This is hard on oil pumps and it take a few second longer for the pump to start building pressure. I think a better choice might be to put in an additive like Lucas or STP. These additives tend to cling to bearings and reduce wear at engine start-up.

Pulsar 150

Dear Pravin,

Always check for the oil level before you start for the first time during the day. If you can just shake the bike you'll know how thick or light the oil is. The more lighter, you'll have to change faster. Also check for color. Oil can be maroon/red/dark green/etc. depending on brand. If its really black, change it fast. Dont do top ups. Better drain the entire oil and fill fresh oil.

The oil also acts as a lubricant to the gearbox. If you feel gear shifting is becoming too slippery or too tough, check for the viscousity, as said earlier. Slipping gear shift can also be due to a loose chain. So check for that too.

By the time you finish 1500 kms or 2000kms, its better to change the oil.

It is better to use Castrol Power1 for Pulsar. It prevents overheating and also keeps the engine and gearbox smooth. It also maintains viscousity at high temperatures for better lubrication.

My experience:

I used to put servo and every 900-1000 kms i had to change oil. Now with Castrol, I change only between 1500-2000kms. I'm getting mileage between 50 and 55kms for a litre of unleaded petrol.

Hope this helps in solving your problem.

Have a nice time riding pulsar.

Always wear helmet and drive safely.
