HP F4180 will not make copies if the paper type is set to Plain paper. It goes through the motions but he paper comes out almost blank. A grey box from the original consistantly copies but nothing else. The printer copies perfectly if the paper type is set to Photo paper. It also scans and prints perfectly in both Black and color.
If you just replaced the ink cartridges, make sure you've removed the plastic tabs that cover where the ink shoots out. If they are old cartridges, make sure that the nozles haven't dried up. Remove the cartridges and dab a cloth (one you don't mind staining) where the ink shoots out, if all the colours show up, it's clear. If you notice very little colour, or none at all, try dampening the cloth and wiping down the cartridges to promote inkflow through the nozles. Hope this helps.

That might all make sense if the printer didn't print black either, but it prints in both black and color fine. It even copies black. It's just really slow when it does it since I must scan and copy to photo paper which is apparently hugher resolution.
