First I suggest you either take a digital picture or draw the belt wrap...that way you'll know how to wrap new belt. You'll need to remove both front wheels and pinion drive stubs. Slide the shaft out far
enough so you can install new belt on lower sprocket. push belt up through access opening in deck.
Then finally install the new belt..make sure to slide belt over sprocket on shaft coming out of motor block last. It might require a std. screwdriver to slide belt over edge of sprocket. Re-assy wheels etc.
If you feel like this task is too tough..just draw yourself an assy. drawing as to how it comes apart, it will be worth it when you re-assy.

I have a Toro mower made in 5/09 self propel system it grinds when you pull it in reverse. The selp propel is not working. The belt is on. and it seems to be only the left rear wheel? The cable is not...

Yes it is the transmission. A Mower shop will charge you about $225 to fix.. I order parts online and fixed mine for $90. Transmission consist of 3 gears which turns the rear wheels to self-propel.

Why won't my 22 in. Kohler Low Wheel Variable Speed Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower self propel anymore?

i would guess that the belt is'nt tight enough when engaged. when you press the drive bar on the handle it should make the belt really tight if not it will need replaced. sometimes the gears in the wheels will mess up. there are videos on you tube that describe that and also the belt.

Vertical drive

If it's where i think it is you have to disconnect the axel rod off of one side and put the belt around the shaft from there.

How do you adjust the drive cable on a troybilt self pro pelled md# 12A-446A711?????

Unfortunately, you cannot adjust it. If you have an extra space to move it lower than it was on the handle you can do that. You might have to get a new cable. Or the belt may need to be replaced. Do you hear a grinding noise when you try to engage the self propel? If so the transmission may have gone out. The most common problem is that the belt has jumped off from where it needs to be and it is no longer turning. To check to see if the belt is off, you will need to put the mower on its' side, the side with the oil level check is the correct one. You will need to loosen the cover over the drive belt. This is done by loosening one or two bolts that hold it in place. The bolts should have 3/8 hex heads. You may have to maneuver the cover a bit to see if the belt is in place. If the belt has jumped above the pulley for the self propel then you will have to install a new belt.

Toro Personal Pace self propel problem.

Your self-propel is probably belt driven. Belts can make an awfully lot of noise when unhappy. Possible it has rolled over and is running on the wrong side of the belt or is worn and just needs replaced. Hope this helps.,
