Im not finding an 8 blink error code in the service manual only 2,4, or 5. the tv will shut down and blink an error code. it will blink the code fast and repeat itslef. if you can tell me what the code is i may be able to assist.

I have a Sony 50" WEGA rear projection tv. Last night it made a popping sound and then the screen went black. I could still hear audio at that time. I turned the tv off and now there is a blinking red...

It sounds lamp in tv got broken as you heard pop sound of it, replace lamp in tv to fix the issue.
Blinking light would be Lamp light at tv front that shows lamp is dead.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and mentioned in tv user manual.

My sony grand wegas will not turn on no picture no sound .

Most possible cause would be broken/ dead lamp in your Sony grand wega tv. Check and replace lamp if it has not been replaced in last 2-3 years.
Do you see lamp red light on tv front or its power light is blinking? Let me know to provide you more info.

4 blinks is a fan error you have a fan that is clogged up or burned out.

T.v turns off about 3 times a day

Its problem of bulb that got weak in result and causing TV shut down.
Replace bulb in TV and I would recommend to buy Sony original bulb for TV safety.
