White powder coming from dehumidifer.

When we come in in the morning there is a thin layer of white stuff covering the table and around the dehumidifer. It is like powder. What is it and how can we stop it?

  • longw50 May 29, 2009

Is there a way to clean the filter or the dehumidifer?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

    To tech,

I think the question is about a dehumidifier -- but, I agree it sounds like something a humidifier would produce.

    To long,

"white stuff covering the table and around the dehumidifer"

Could you please confirm that your problem is with a dehumidifier and not a humidifier?

Commercially available cool mist humidifiers sonicate water in order to create a fine mist. In other words, intense vibration liberates millions of tiny droplets of water from the reservoir. This water contains all of the salts of the original tap water. Consequently, over time, you will begin noticing that a fine white powder covers EVERYTHING in the room. This is the same stuff that is trapped in the reservoir of a warm mist humidifier.
its harmful but very annoying !

How do I remove the cabinet from a frigidaire dehumidifer?

Hey friend, thank you for your post!
I understand that you would like to remove the cabinet within your Frigidaire dehumidifier. Typically, the cabinet is not accessible. If you need to access anything internally within your dehumidifier I would suggest seeking assistance from a professional. Best regards! -Matt

Can't get our dehumidifer to run. It show all the numbers but doesn't want to run to plull humidity out of the air. Can't find my manual book so we know what to have numbers at. Can you send me...

Bonnie, there are 5 basic, but solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
level
in basement applications . Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helped you tho troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Ice keeps forming on top of my lg dehumidifer

MOst likely the room the dehumidifier is operating is is too cold for proper dehumidification to take place. Try warming up the room and I believe then your dehumidifier will work fine.

Unit runs but no water in storage tank

Make sure conditions are not too cold or too dry already.
Is the compressor running?
Set the unit to the continuous run setting or the dryest setting
compressor should start.
If compressor runs but the evaporator doesn't get cold the freon has
leaked out.
If compressor doesn't run no matter what you do the board may be bad.
Also the fan must blow air.

The unit will not turn on. Haier 65-Pint Dehumidifer

Unplug it. Just open the back up carefully. Don't touch those cute little capacitors, diodes, etc., because they can hold a charge. Look for a glass fuse. Use a fuse puller or grab it with your fingers. Look to see if that little thin wire inside is broken.

If yes, then go to Radio Shack or auto parts store and have them match it by size and amps. Reinstall and plug the DH in to see if that was the problem.

If it blows again, you have other elect problems.
