Same goes for me guys. Im 15 years old and i kno my way around PC's but i just cant figure this one out. I have DELL XPS 700, just bought a new motherboard and power supply. and it STILL gives me the flashing amber light more times than not. What should i do>? >New FAN???

  • evenjaxon May 29, 2009

The Amber light comes from the power button on the CPU/Tower itself.

  • evenjaxon Jun 23, 2009

The Amber light comes from the power button on the CPU/Tower itself not the monitor.

My power button cable is missing so i plug into the wall pc starts up no noise but fan amber light but black screen graphics card fine?

Dont worry about on/off cable. if you have restart / reset button, remove that cable from motherboard and insert it in power on pins and use reset button as on/off switch.

Dell xps 700 turns on once power cored is plugged in?

The turning on when plugged it in ...is caused by a bios setting ..Im not sure how it is named..but I will take a look and post a comment ..but it is something on the ac setting page in BIOS ..It basically related with restarting when power is out for a few moments ..I think is called ac sensitive ..or so ..It can be disabled...and the fastest way is to get to bios settings ..and choose the optimal factory defaults..It should not do that by the factory settings ..so it will be disabled..Save the changes with F10 when you finish ..or if this is not available ..choose to save changes in the way out ..(this is a standard for dell )
Ill be back with the exact name of the function causing this ..

I have a Dell dimension XPS 400/9150, 3 years old. I did updates and shut down. Tried to restart, but all I got was a flickering amber light. Won't start at all. Now no light.

Sounds like your power supply just failed. Unplug the power cord, open the case, and look for a metal box inside the case right where the power wire plugs in. Remove the box...usually four screws hold it to the case, remove all of the wires...marking each one and the motherboard so you'll be able to connect the new power supply wires. Most computer stores will have a suitable replacement. Easy replacement if you mark the wires/connections during removal. Just be sure to work with the power plug removed.

tower? what is tower?
you bought a used PC, ?
or is it really like this on the tag
i5680-7813BLU???? 5000 series, for sure, but see those other letter there?
5000 is like saying FORD, many fords made with that 5000 partial name.
5000 laptops year 2000.
5000 laptops new, with size prefix, 15-5000 up
old 5000 series desktops and new ones. all with unique full model numbers not stated.
or 5000 dimension, or Inspiron Desktops
the former is 13 year s old.
In my town i and go to the store, buy a old DELL , new DELL or a REFURB dell. all the same day, and land an up to 15 year old PC.
----------------------------------wild guess----------------------------------
this.
DESKTOPS DEAD 101.
Pull the power cord off wall jack
push power button for 15 seconds.
release.
power cord back in , power on button,
does it boot to windows? if windows, login screen.

PC COME ON VASTLY different loaded options new,

my best guess is this.
this PC? a full sized desktop, from year. 2015-18 new.?

5000dt-dicd5gy5vfl450omivhtojsh-1-0.jpg standby plugged in, it is, but not turned on,
sleep mode
hibernate mode
hybrid mode.

this PC has 4 states and 0ff the 5th if unplugged from the wall AC.

the orange LED? is actually called amber,(no arg)
it has 2 states, that color. sold and blinking page 130
sold amber is boot fail. 5v standby power ok, but will not turn on.
blinking amber means (complex answer RTM)
"Boot Failure: The computer is receiving electrical power, and power supplied by
the power supply is normal.
A device might be malfunctioning or incorrectly
installed.
Refer to the table below for Amber Blinking Pattern diagnostics
suggestion and possible failure."

we call those blink codes.
if this is not you PC , consider the above as a show and tell
guessed the real model.number
and went to dell.com , opened the manual and read page 130.
you can do the same at any time.
best is download the manual for you PC and keep it.
so its not lost.(years later)
