make sure all terminals are clean & tight on all + & - from battry to starter check that terminals are snug on ends of cables if still clicks put screw driver across selenoid with switch on from hot cable to hot cable both should be red you mite get a little spark thats ok should start if so cut off & try w/key sometimes switch or regulator will cause same problem sometimes they will keep starting with key
Start at the ignition switch and look for the starter wire..it should be the one tat is slightly heavier and normally red..and goes to the solenoid pos side..good lu k
Lift the hood and it should be close to the front side that you are now looking into. Look for the new flat colored fuses not he round old style fuses.
It's easier to find the correct information with a model number.
I have found a owners manual listed under MTD 130-390A
owners manual for a 2002 ranch king riding lawn mower.
Hopefully this is the same as yours.
The starter smoking is an indication that you may have to buy a new starter because when you hold the ignition over to long it will heat up the inside and burn the coil wires inside. But I would try a battery with a higher cranking amp such as a 350 CC. It will turn the engine over faster and easier.
