There is a 3.3 Volt button battery on your motherboard, that powers the BIOS chip so it can remember the current date and time. If you replace that battery then set the time and date the computer should no longer default back to 2008.

To remove the battery press the small metal clip towards the edge of the battery, the battery will then pop out. Simply press the new battery into place. Make sure you are able to see the writing on the top of the battery for the correct polarity.

If you attempt to do this yourself be sure to unplug the computer than press and hold the power button for about 4 seconds to de-energize the motherboard.

Should you not feel comfortable doing this any repair shop should be able to do this repair while you wait as it takes generally less than 2 minutes.

I have finish f1 key in system plz help me

Hello.

Please provide more details about your problem.

If you are seeing the "F1" prompt soon after turning the computer on, it is likely preceded by details of what has occurred and wants you to confirm the change. Reboot the computer and look at the entire screen and provide the details on the screen so we can help.

Until we get your exact issue, I will cover the basic reasons why you would see

If the message states the DATE AND TIME are incorrect, you will need to replace the small round battery that is on the motherboard. These are typically a battery with 2032 written on them and you can pick them up almost anywhere watch batteries are sold. Replace the battery, boot the computer and then go into BIOS and set the correct date and time.

If something has failed on your PC (like a stick of memory, hard drive, CD ROM drive, etc.) the BIOS would see this change and would prompt you to acknowledge this change and either hit F2 to go into BIOS and fix the issue or F1 to continue booting the computer. IF this is the case, note what has failed and then go into BIOS and either disable the drive or accept the new memory value.

I get this message when I boot my computer Strike F1 to retry boot . F2 for setup utility. What does this mean? and what can I do..F1 doesn't do anything and F2 everything looks correct? any assistance...

It means that something is wrong with your setup - my first guess is that your computer backup battery has gone bad, but it may be something else.

Press F1 to retry - if the computer starts, check the system date/time (usually in the right-hand corner of the toolbar - the opposite end of where the Start icon is located).

If the computer does not start, press F2 - you will be entering the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) and you really should not change anythig unless you are familiar with what the terms mean. BUT - it will do no harm to change the date and/or time if they are incorrect.

Exit out and the computer should now boot automatically.

If it DOES boot, then the battery is weak or dead. You will have to shut down the computer, open the case and replace the quarter-sized battery - usually 3volts.

While you are in there, blow out any accumulated dust - and don't forget the power supply.

Close the case and reboot. You will still get the error, but this time, once you reset the date/time the computer will "remember" the settings and you will be good to go for a few more years.

Heloo sir i have a problem with my dell 170l when i start it it shows ''strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility'' when i click f1 it show ''f1 to retry boot,f2 for setup utility'' plz help me...

Hit F2,look in setup to see if the hard drive is recognized and check that the date and time are correct.
Then hit esc key. it will ask if you want to save changes, click yes. It should boot and probably ask you to hit F1 or F2 again., unless there is a problem with the CMOS battery, which may need to be replaced.
If you hit F1 to continue, it will boot, but your time and date will be off.

Booting process interrupted during the booting process, pc reports error, press f1 to view setup or f2 to continue.

Try going to the setup and loading the default values. If this does not solve your problem its time to change your CMOS battery. Turn your system off. Open your case. You will find a coin like component. That is your CMOS battery remove it and replace it with a new one. When booting for the first time after replacing the battery, enter the correct date and time.
