SOURCE: connecting a onkyo tx82 reciever to a insingia tv

With the Onkyo you're just going to amplify sound... Thus it would be left/right audio OUT of Tv to left/right audio IN Onkyo...

SOURCE: ps3 and onkyo receiver

Hello.

I have a similar setup and am having problems of my own, but i've got it somewhat working at the moment.

I have the TV connected via HDMI to the receivers HDMI output port.

I have the PS3 connected via HDMI to the receivers HDMI input port 1.

I went on the receiver and followed the instructions in the manual to setup the DVD function on the receiver (i chose to call my ps3 a dvd) to use HDMI-1. I can't remember the button combination as i'm not at my hosue right now, but it was in the HDMI section of the manual (page 44 on my manual). Essentially I had to tell the receiver to enable HDMI for the DVD function rather than being defaulted to "No". At that point, with the default ps3 setup, I was able to get video to pass through.

Next, i went into the video options on the ps3 and changed it to 1080p (since my tv supports that).

Where I"m having my problem is that the sound from the ps3 outputs directly to the TV and doesn't output on my receiver for some reason.

How I've rigged that to work is to take the HDMI to RCA cable that came with my PS3 and i plugged in the Red and White wires on the back of the receiver in the DVD section of inputs. At that point the sound comes through the receiver.

What I don't know how to do and would really like to know is how to get the sound to output on my receiver via HDMI only and not with the extra cable.

Anyway, if i'm making sense above and you follow that, you should be up and running (but maybe not in an optimal configuration).

Let me know if you ahve any questions.

Also, if anyone knows the solution to my issue, i'm all ears.

Thanks.

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.

How can I hook up BIC F12 subwoofer to Onkyo TX-DS838 receiver? Will the receiver power the subwoofer and other speakers?

Get a RCA cable and connect from your amp where it said Sub Woofer in the Pre Out box in the back of the amplifier top left hand side and take it to the "Sub In" located in the back of your Sub woofer bottom right hand (White round connector).
Good Luck!

How do I hook up my Onkyo receiver to my dish network box?

Take the cables from the receiver to the tv and connect it to your Onkyo where it says "in", then take another cable and run it from your Onkyo receiver where it says "out" and connect it directly to the tv. Make sure you cycle the inputs on your receiver and tv, so you get sound and video.

Tx-ds747 no display light, when powering on only stand by mode and the volume knob has light ,how to fix it.

Sounds like the "Pure Audio" mode is turned on. This mode is designed to use the amps power to dedicate to audio processing and sound quality. It turns off all front panel lights and video processing. Check you remote or thr front panel of the Onkyo for a "Pure Audio" button.

Xbox 360

There are a couple of options you can use.

Are your DVD and cable actually going to the Onkyo first and then to the TV? I am assuming it is, if you listen to the Onkyo when watching a DVD or cable.

The Onkyo receiver you have has 2 hdmi inputs and 1 hdmi output.

Does your Xbox360 have an hdmi output and that is what you want to connect to the Onkyo? Some do and some don't.

If your Xbox has a hdmi output and you are already using the 2 hdmi inputs on the Onkyo, you can not connect the Xbox using the hdmi, you have no more hdmi to connect to, so you must go thru one of the other inputs of the Onkyo.

The hdmi has the video and audio together, the other video options do not. you would need to run seperate audio cables as well.
Your Xbox should have a composite video (yellow RCA jack) output or a component video (1 red, 1 blue, 1 green RCA jack) output.

When you connect the Xbox thru, lets say the composite video of the Onkyo , you will also need to connect the audio from the Xbox to the Onkyo on the same input. It should be right next to the yellow RCA jack or right under it. They are 2 RCA jacks, one red and one white.

You will then need to connect the composite output of the Onkyo to the composite input of the TV.

When connecting like this, you will also need to select the composite input on your TV with your remote for your TV. Your TV should have an input button that lets you go thru all the different inputs to it.

you can also use the component video from the Xbox if it has that. But you must also run the audio to the Onkyo as well to the corresponding audio inputs of the component video input on the Onkyo.

This may sound a little confusing, but remember that the hdmi has the audio and video in one cable, the other video options do not, so you must run additional cables for the audio to the Onkyo from the Xbox.

Also remember whichever video you use from the Xbox to the Onkyo, you must also run that same video from the Onkyo to the TV and then switch the TV over to that input when you want to watch the Xbox on the TV

Onkyo TX-SR304

Onkyo offers access to manuals at their web site. HERE is a link to the receiver line.

Personally, I'd connect the speakers to main left/right. The subwoofer to subwoofer out. The Go VIdeo unit to VCR/Video 1, the cable box to Video 2 and the video output to the Sony TV composite input. No need to connect the TV audio out to the receiver since the audio feed comes from the cable box.
