You have had a flat battery for a long time hence the cells tend to be dead. Make sure the power adapting is remitting the right voltage with the use of a multimeter set to dc voltage at 20V. Most power adapters are within the range of 13 and 19.5V, so 20V dc should be selected for a correct reading ok. Having comfirmed that to be ok, you should just power off your pc and have it connected to a power outlet for a least 2hours. If there is still no sign of battery life, then it should be changed as it might have exceeded its life span. Most of such batteries have an average life span of 5 years depending on use though.
