I just bought a philips hts3510 home cinema and i just found out that it doesnt take any dvds with region 1. Is this the fact that these years such dvd players do not support multi region dvds?? Im very...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

"The commercial DVD player specification requires that a player to be sold in a given place not play discs encoded for a different region".

If you don't live in Region 1 and you know most DVD's ARE Region 1, it would make sense that some care should be taken to buy DVD's compatible with YOUR region.

Will not play dvds

  • make sure to use lens cleaner to ensure DVD player is free of dust and dirt on laser lens
  • another cause would be that your DVD player is no multi-region or not region free, because many DVDs have region settings. in order to make your philips DVD player region free (can play all region DVDs) check link below:

Multi region code for philips hts 3090 dvd player

With your set on and without disc in the tray:

1. Press PLAY from your remote control
2. Press the following button sequence: 1590 2379 390
3. Press PLAY again

This will release the region verification in your home theater (region free). However, some DVDs (multiregion in particular) will not play, since they require region detection from the player unit.

I've done this to my 3090 and been using it like this for 3 years.

I think the following should work for this player-
  • Power On the unit and Open the tray
  • Slowly press 9, 9, 9 and then 9
  • Press 0 for region free
  • Close tray
Note: If the above code doesn't work then attempt the same operation with the tray Closed instead

Philips 7" DVD portable player

The PET702 will be a region 5 machine, whereas the UK DVDs are region 2.

DVD players from a particular region are designed to play only DVDs from the same region, due to copyright and distribution rights in each country or region.

However the PET702 can have the region protection removed by making it multi-region:

Switch on the PET702 and Open the tray.

Press SETUP button on the remote control, which will bring up the menu.

Highlight "PREFERENCES" and press OK.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [2], [5], [2], [3], [1], [5], [LEFT], [DOWN]

The screen will show: "Region Code: 2"
Press [1-6] to manually set the region OR [0] for multi-region.
coolsmiley.gif
Press [SETUP] to exit winksmiley.gif

You will now be able to play DVDs from anywhere in the world.

This is particularly useful, because region 1 DVDs from the US often come out when the movies are still in the cinemas over here. Region 1 DVDs can be bought perfectly legally by mail order or from the internet.
