Most Honda engines have an oil pressure switch that prevents engine damage due to low/no oil pressure. Make sure there is sufficient oil in the engine and that the wire is connected to the pressure switch.

I have a 8 hp gx240 will star but wont stay running

These carbs are hard to clean up. They are fairly cheap to replace outright so I would suggest that as a fallback option.

I would check the float level and make sure the inlet needle for the float is clean and moving freely. It sounds like you are getting fuel at a slower rate than the engine needs to continuously run. You can also have restrictions upstream in the fuel valve, fuel filter or fuel pump. That should be easy to test. You just take the fuel line off the carb and crank the motor and collect the fuel. More than an ounce or two in 10-20 seconds of cranking would be good.

Be safe and good luck!

Engine will not run but a few minutes at a time

Check your spark plugs, see if they are failing, if they are then your motor is getting to hot. meaning that you either have the fuel mixture set to high or the setting on the spark plugs are not correct causing you to burn hot.

Oil grade and level in pump reservoir? Motor is shutting down, all else seems fine, assume is oil level. North Star with Honda GX340 - pressure washer.

15-40 there will be a fill mark that is easy to see when you remove the cap or it will have a dip stick

Second your oil pressure switch may be bad or have a bad connection

I want to remove the 4gpm pump on my pressure washer.

HI, It sounds like it is just stuck on the keyway as these can be very tight. You need to force the pump of evenly on either side and should come of if patient.

2-yr old troy-bilt pressure washer with honda gcv160 engine. seems to run well, but when trigger is pulled get full pressure for less than 5 seconds before reducing to house water pressure. when left...

It sounds like an air lock. Try this: With the machine off, connect the hose to the washer and let it run for several minutes to get all of the air out of the hose, and to purge any air out of the pump. Shut off the water, and connect the high pressure hose, but not the gun. Let the water run for several minutes. stretch out the HP hose and make sure that the air is displaced. Shut off the water, connect the gun, and purge as before. Now crank it washer up. As quickly as safe to do so, open the trigger to keep water moving through the washer. It should come up on pressure very quickly. It is better during normal operation to keep water moving through the system. When I am through for a while, I shut down my washer, but leave the trigger depressed to allow the pump to stay full of water, and cool. This prevents further problems when I restart it.
Hope this was useful.

Honda GX340 11 Hp ..Runs fine until it gets hot , Cuts off and

FIRST...check the engine oil level. Some Honda engines have an oil sensor that shuts off the spark if the oil is low. This would also explain it shutting down when it get hot. Check the manual to see how to tell if the oil level is correct. Also, the oil should be brown and transparent, not black. It may need changing. Post again if this doesn't help :-)
